iSamurai Full Version free for 2 days
    1) We have been getting a lot of positive email about iSamurai Bluetooth (see below), so we are celebrating by making iSamurai Bluetooth (the full version) free for 2 days.

    iSamurai Video Contest
2)iSamurai Bluetooth allows sword fights anywhere, so we are holding an iSamurai video contest. First prize will be an iPod Touch. We will be giving out the prizes in Oct. so hopefully Apple will release a new model by then. There will be 9 other prizes. Full details are available on our web site at http://toykite.com/content/isamurai-bluetooth-video-contest.

Testing New Upgrade - other ideas
    3) We are testing an upgrade that makes the game more interesting and more fun. It works like this: if a player blocks 3 attacks in a row, his next hit is a critical hit worth 3 normal hits. In our tournaments, this forces a player to watch his opponent and not just attack wildly.

We are also looking at another option: if a player does all 4 attacks in sequence, the opponent dies instantly.

Lastly, we had a suggestion for a "finishing move" similar to Mortal Combat. Perhaps if a player wins by 50% or more (10 hits to 5), he gets to do a final finishing move.

    What do you think?

    Any other ideas?

    Emails from iSamurai Players
Here are some of email messages that people have sent us by pushing a button in iSamurai:

"iSamurai Developers, the game is just plainly awesome!" R.C.

"I deeply enjoyed this application since I have a deep love of kendo." A.S.

"This is the coolest game in the world:D i love it." Nikolaj N.

"Thank you very much for the perfect game!" David H.

"I just got this game and I am already addicted to the single player mode." C.F.

"iSamurai has got to be one of the best iPhone games yet-- you guys did an amazing job!" Patrick

"I was stage-swordfighting myself a few years ago (mainly fully armored medieval knight combat with longsword) and really enjoyed your app (and the new movie! :)). It's amazing how you used the iPhone's limited motion detection to create a fun swordplay experience. All thumbs up! Thanks again for this app!" A. O.

"What a great game. Never seen anything like it on any platform. I'm telling everyone. Can't wait for my first in-person duel. Bound to be the biggest game for blind people in history I'd imagine. ... Can't wait to see where you go from here. Awesome stuff." J.D.

I wish more bluetooth games would ask to enable bluetooth in game as I usually turn it off to save power.

We weren't able to get iSamurai to connect this morning, will try again at lunch when we have more time. ;)

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try to get that added to the next release. Can anyone point me to a game that has the above feature so that we can try it.

Until Apple updates iPhone software 3.0, please turn off Wi-Fi on both devices when connecting over Bluetooth, and turn off Bluetooth on both devices when connecting over Wi-Fi. For more info, see http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=18510.

Just received this feedback by email. Definitely made me laugh... I passed it on to the rest of our team:

I may just do that. I don't know if the author of the email is on Touch Arcade, but if so, thank you... you made my day.

Combat On Palm is a free game that will ask and turn bluetooth on for you if it isn't.

I'm surprised some of the 'big' games don't. F.A.S.T. will tell you it's not turned on. Flight Control just lets you start a multiplayer game without anything and spins... :)

We just played this, and it connected right up this time, gameplay worked as advertised. One problem we had was that it was terribly confusing what was going on. I wish the screen had some feedback and/or feedback via audio. At the end I found out I won with 10 hits to his 5, but that was it. I couldn't tell if the ouch and attack sounds I heard were all of them or just mine.

One possibility would be a 'headphones mode' where you hear 'hit-squish' for a hit on your opponent, 'clang' for a block and 'ouch' for yourself being hit. One step further would be to have the attacks (and blocks?) called out kung-fu movie style so you know that an attack was registered.

Fun game if you have a friend and don't mind looking a bit silly while playing. :D

Thanks. I downloaded Combat On Palm. I will push to get a Turn-on-Bluetooth feature added.

Valuable feedback! I will pass it on to our programmers.

In the next upgrade, there will be an audio alert when you are getting close to death. Also with the new critical strike feature, blocking and tactics become much more important, and I think that helps with the points that you raised.

Thanks for trying it out. If you have any other feedback, please let us know. It helps us focus on what's important.

    iSamurai connections

If anyone has problems with iSamurai connecting over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, try powering down both devices by pressing the button on the top and the main button simultaneously. In fact, I have seen that advice with a number of apps when they are first installed.

Also as posted previously, turn off Wi-Fi if using Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth if using Wi-Fi. This will be necessary until Apple updates iPhone software 3.0.

Thanks to everyone who downloaded iSamurai.

Word went out on Twitter and we had well over 10,000 downloads in a few days.

To anyone who didn't get it for free, we will be "celebrating" again, and we will definitely announce it here. Touch Arcade and MacHeist launched us in San Francisco, and we very much appreciate the feedback that we get here. So thanks for the ideas in this thread. :)

As mentioned earlier, we are testing a critical strike. If you block 3 times, your next hit is worth 3 hits. This seems to really make opponents pay attention instead of just attacking, particularly when they hear the critical strike sound and realize their opponent's next hit could finish them off. We will be submitting that to Apple asap.

    Survey:
What do think about a special finishing move? For example, if you win by a wide margin, there could be some kind of Mortal Combat like finish.

    All ideas and input appreciated.

    :)

Just received this feedback by email.

Adam, we are tracking with you. We will have what we call a "critical strike" in the next upgrade.

    Re: Critical Strike

Four of us just had an in-house tournament tonight, and Ryan, our graphics guy who just came down from Sacramento, had his first experience with Critical Strike--he was jazzed about it.

As we fought, our strategies definitely evolved. I beat both Ryan and Arin 2 to 0 which surprised them (and me), but then my son Robert took me out 2 - 1. Then Ryan came back and beat Robert.

At certain points in each battle, it was almost like a boxing match where we were eyeing each other, trying to get hits in without allowing 3 blocks in a row which activates the critical hit. When activated, a special sound is emitted and all our attention turned to blocking the critical hit.

This update should be in iTunes in two weeks. It would be cool if we could organize some tournaments with prizes.

    :)

    Just got this email today:

We discussed this tonight and Arin is going to look into showing the score during a battle. We have already added a feature to the next upgrade that will report stats after the battle: # of hits, # of blocks, # of critical hits, and there will be a new sound when close to death.

    :)
