iPhone no. iPad yes. Tablet was just not tablet enough for me. Some of the tweaks ou there for it are pretty sweet and makes multitasking and gestures and the tweaking much more computer like for me. Is it a near constant tweaking/changing adventure? Sure, but that's part of the fun.
Yes. But at some point I was "pure" because I had problems with jail breaking and other things related in the past. But now I'm jailbroken again simply because I have a 1st gen touch and its gonna stay at the 3.1.3 firmware..
i have a gen 3 ipod anda ipad 2 on its way. wish it would get here already. Iv been buying apps for it like crazy and the damn thing is not even in my hands yet.. shrugs.. at any rate. i doubt ill jailbreak it. even tho nes emulator would be nice.. but no big deal. after reading the responses from the: http://cydiahelp.com/jailbreak-ios-5-iphone-4-3gs-ipad-2-1-ipod-touch-how-to/ make one think twice.. or they are just dumber than i give most people credit for ( i assume most people are smarter than me.. shrugs. ) seems like one huge head ache if you look at it from that point of view. laughs.. for now.. nope not jb.. i have been in the past tho.. but voted No. chris.
I've stayed jailbroken ever since iOS 4.1. I'm still not sure if I'm gonna re-jailbreak when there's finally an untethered jailbreak. I have an iPod Touch 4G, but there are just some tweaks that I want but are best used for an iPhone
Jailbreaking is dead easy. For iOS < 5: visit jailbreakme.com on your device, instantly done. For iOS >= 5: download redsn0w, click jailbreak, let it do it's thing, done. Everyone and their mother should have root access available (just don't tell your mon the password). Anything you can think of improving is available on Cydia. I consider it ESSENTIAL to be able to browse the filesystem, download files in Safari, and monitor system resources. And of course without SSH it's difficult to explore the system and develop for it.
I actually have one pure device (my current, iPhone 4).. And a jail broken one (old 2g) I've decided I'm only gonna jailbreak a device that doesn't receive new iOS updates anymore.
OK, but that's like deciding to wear one pair of jeans until they fall apart: you could, but what are you trying to achieve? And why deprive yourself of the single best feature of this platform (administrative power; the ability to extend Apples features cleanly and with THEIR OWN CODE) ??
i just hate re-jailbreaking every time a new version of the operating system comes out this basically tips the scales of the question for me.
It's pretty easy. I've found a simple method for quick updating/jailbreaking: Before you update, backup via iTunes, and download PkgBkp from Cydia and backup your Cydia via that application. Restore / Jailbreak Download PkgBkp and restore all your Cydia apps / sources / etc. Plug it into iTunes and restore your iDevice from your backup, and let it sit overnight. Once you wake up, your device should be updated with all your data It only takes like half an hour to set up, then you just wait for it to finish! Uber easy.
Simply put, not everyone needs to jailbreak. Well, when I purchased my devices, I purchased them because of what they can do in their current state. I bought my iPhone to use as a phone, to listen to music, to check my mail, to browse the web, to use app from the App Store etc. I bought my iPad to watch videos, to check my mail, to browse the web etc. Personally, there is nothing that a jailbreak can offer that I desperately need. Sure, SBSettings can make my life easier and Winterboard will make my iPhone look cooler, but they're not needed. They're nice to have, but I can live without them. Of course, some people heavily rely on some things that jailbreaking can offer, but I'm not one of them and I'm sure there are others who feel the same way.
Not jailbroken. I don't mind paying for my apps, it's usually only about $5/week I put into buying apps, and get much more enjoyment out of it than that. Plus I don't want to risk doing anything that would void my warranty/affect performance by doing any unauthorized modding, I'm a real clutz with that kind of thing. I'd rather just pay the cost and have everything legit.
The only reason to jailbreak is to load emulator's because quite frankly all the other jailbroken apps on a whole are just pure crap and warranted Apple not putting them in the app store.
The only thing I have ever jailbroken is my iPod touch cause it was cheap, things like iPad 2, iPhone etc I wounding because I wouldnt want to void the warranty if it does stuff up. My iPod touch is ruined, I can never update it because I can't be bothered to figure out how to update a jail broken iPod, since it was years ago when I did it, I bought a new iPod instead. I might jailbreak my iPad 2 once its out of warranty strictly because I'd like to add both Internet tethering and mouse connectivity. I couldn't jail break a device strictly to het free games because it's so much hard work, updates for apps come out all the time, I just couldnt keep up with the upkeep, I'd rather just pay 99c for a game and have easy access to updates, I rarely turn on my laptop, and thankfully, I don't have to, I download everything straight from iTunes so it's quick n easy
I once had an earlier device jailbroken for emulators mostly ScummVM, but now with so many great games out, there is no need for it. But I sometimes think about doing it again, not for emus but for stuff like having Siri on iPhone 4 or iPad 2 or playing iPhone games in retina on iPad. You know stuff that Apple won't give us for stupid reasons nobody understands.
I agree, but emulators aren't the only reason to jailbreak. The tweaks are where it's at (for me ). SBSettings - I turn wifi and cellular data on and off quite often, so going into Settings is annoying and having the toggles in Notification Center would be awesome. Infinifolders / FolderEnhancer - Let's face it, the 12 app per folder limit is pathetic, nuff said.
i'm like a luddite when it comes to rooting/jailbreaking stuff. So much fear, so little time to do it.
No jailbreak for me. The most I have paid for an App is 4,99 euro. The least is zero. So with an average of only 2,49 euro per app...I see no point in jailbreaking.
