Hey Gang, I have several hundred of apps on my iPod Touch 3G and while the wondrous folders no longer have me relying on search to find my hidden apps (on the device but without an accessible icon), I just noticed that the search function seems REALLY broken and won't return results for many of my known apps. Is this just me? Is there a way to rebuild the Search Index?
hi had the same problem. and a reboot fixed it.. then it would be broken again in a few days etc.. last night i finally just did what i should of did when I first started having problems.. do a restore.. so now i did restore all my problems are gone minus battery drain.. ( thinking 4.2 fixed more than just the jailbreak hole. ) but hey least safari and itunes and app store are not crashing every 30 seconds. now i just have to wait for the new ipods to come out. i assume we wont see a new jailbreak until then. chris.
So a Restore will just restore my last backup or does that take me back to a completely fresh install? I'll give that a try, thanks.
Err, battery drain is bad but a fresh install would mean losing ALL of my local saves, right? I guess I'll risk the drain...but am curious what you mean by this. Does this mean permanent damage to my battery or something?
I found an easier fix for most problems is just to reset all settings (not data), then do a hard reset. I also tested search and it's working fine. The main caches I've noticed that bog down the iOS system are: 1. High volume of email messages inbox/sent 2. Safari cache 3. Threaded text conversations (it fricking saves convos from forever ago, which results in bulk)
Yah General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings (first tab at the top) Don't freak out about the warnings, it will not delete data and it states that in bold red twice before you do it. Although the first time it scared me just seeing the red text lol.
That did the trick! After hitting "Reset All Settings" the Search is working again and, as far as I can tell, all of my apps are still there in their proper directories!
me either. i just know i had zero problems with battery life with 3.x compared to what iso4 has done.. iso4x is just not optimized for our older devices i think.. iphone 4 gets good battery life so iv read. did learn a valuable lesson tho.. never be one of the first adopters to a new iso.. wait for it to work it bugs out. if i knew what i knew now i would of left 3.x on and had zero problems.. i wanted folders tho. ( should of just jailbreak ) chris.
Np man, glad it worked. Also I hated the battery life I had on the 3gs, but I'm loving it on the iPhone 4. Only tricks I know for reserving battery as much as possible are 1. No push (including email push - set it to manual push) 2. Lower brightness for daily use (raise when viewing videos, games) and set Auto bright on 3. Learn to love Auto Lock - I have it set at 1 minute, you don't have to include passlock with this feature, it'll dim the screen then eventually shut it off when idle. 4. Turn off location services for apps that don't need it. I only use it for Maps, Beatthetraffic app (sigalert traffic utility which also uses maps), and Flixster for looking up local theatres. All those other apps don't need to be signaling gps locations every 10minutes or whatever they do, its nonsense. 5. Ask to join WiFi can be turned off also it's so annoying and just adds to another process that doesn't need to be running. Hope some of this helps out.
