To make it worse, that green line consists of all the iPod models (classic, nano, shuffle and touch). Still it sells and it sells quite a lot. Just doesnt make apple as much money as iPhone does. Apple TV makes so little that they still call it a hobby and dont even disclose exact sales figures. Yet they keep it coz it sells. There is no way ipod touch is going to be discontinued anytime soon.

I really don't think battery life is that big of an issue with the iPhone, especially for casual gamers which seem to make up the bulk of the App Store customer base. I mean think about it, 30 minutes both ways on the Subway playing Angry Birds doesn't exactly drain your battery.

I play a shit load of games on my phone and rarely need to charge it any more than just at night. I mean I guess you could get all anxious about battery life, but all you need to do is stop playing games when you get the 20% pop-up and just save the rest for whatever calls you'd need to make before you can make it home to charge. That's what I do, and I really never run into problems.

I'm on the same boat. I still have a shitty keypad slider. I don't really need an iPhone, it would be nice to have one, but I don't really need it. I charge it once every few days and it's good (since I rarely call anyone or talk to anyone, and I text). I use my iPod extensively though, however I am always at a computer for work or home, whatever. So it holds a charge and rarely sees battery life lower than 20%. It happens, but not often. For this reason, I am a proud iPod touch owner, and don't really plan on getting an iPhone. I play too many damn games and listen to wayyyy too much music to have it suck the life out of my phone.

Thinking about it though, if I did have an iPhone I would be able to keep it charged all the time since I am at a computer all the time.

Wait... what the hell was the point of this post? iPod touches, won't die. I just don't see it happening.

True for most people that it will easily hold a charge for a day, but the problem is, most people I know forget to charge overnight (mostly remedied with car chargers in every vehicle). And when you travel a lot, it only gets worst. I think in general battery life needs to see a jump in a day in age when we spend so much of our time on "unconnected devices". It just feels like battery life is significantly behind the rest of technology.

After two years of constant use battery life is practically non-existent on my 3GS these days. I get about 6 hours of casual use before it's down to 20% and about 9 hours with the Mophie Juice Pack Air and that's without any gaming.

For what it's worth, the battery is super easy to swap in a 3GS.

Maybe it is but I'd rather just wait for an iPhone 5 to replace it with since I already sliced open a finger prying off the back of my old iPod 3rd gen to replace the dead hard drive.

You know, I was one of those millions of Touch users who said they'd never need an iPhone. That being said, my mobile at the time was a real piece of crap. So I think it all depends on what phone you have at the minute. If you have a smartphone and an iTouch, the iPhone will give you very little new. But upon getting my iPhone I was given 3G and all the benefits that came with it. So I can't honestly ever imagine going back to a Touch and a crappy mobile ever again.

I'm starting to go in the opposite direction I'm thinking of ditching the touch and just buying a good android phone. Mainly it's due to itunes driving me mad on windows.

In any case the iphone doesn't have the battery to be both my mp3 player and my phone, unless apple pull miracles with the next versions I think my Ipod will be the last piece of hardware they manage to sell me.
A few weeks ago I probably would have bought a fifth Gen on launch day.

Yeah the battery on the iPhone is balls. I have to charge mine daily, sometimes even multiple times daily so I can use my iPhone's features. And this is never for long periods of time either.

And from all the things I've seen, Android is the better platform (probably shouldn't say that here), shame HTC phones are so ass.

What exactly is so bad about iTunes on windows? If you set it to manually manage music and videos all you have to do is drag them over and occasionally hit the sync button to backup. Is the software really that unstable or are the complaints coming from people who also use it for media management for some odd reason?

I avoid it for media management if I could I'd have it off my computer right now ,I'd much rather have winamp and VLC. Itunes is something I suffer and use as little as possible.

Itunes on windows is a nightmare in my opinion, it takes ages to sync and then throws up random error codes. Lately it downloads versions of apps it already has and when it does download a proper update it refuses to recognise it and will throw up sync errors until after you close and reopen it (I have to do this after every single update downloads).

I miss the ease of just dragging and dropping files into my archos and PSP.
I wouldn't really be surprised if most of the customers apple loses are using itunes and windows together

Oh, that makes a lot more sense to me now then. I thought it was just a lot of windows users bitching about how crappy iTunes is overall. I'm on a Mac and I don't particularly care for it, I used Winamp for a decade before switching. The short period when backups on the Mac took over an hour was pretty painful and I figured they would have sorted that problem out long ago on both platforms. :( Maybe when iOS5 finally hits you can forgo syncing to iTunes entirely and just use the cloud for backup? It's not like Android offers any kind of device to PC backup or does it?

I was hoping for a new nano or shuffle to give myself an excuse to buy one for running even though I have an iPhone.

If a white one comes out I am going to be severely upset. I want it and don't want to have to upgrade from my 4th gen :(
