People look too far into things like this. It's a change so that all the iDevices have the same music and video apps, that's it.
No way Apple will drop the ipod touch: each time they release a new one they explode their quotas.Because the dev and the iOS only use the latest generations consumers are forced to buy a new ipod if they want to follow. Moreover the ipod touch is like the daddy of iphone and ipad
I agree but this whole thing is based on a few things and while unlikely it is possible. For anyone wondering where this story came from it can really be narrowed down to the three points below. Iphone had the ipod app removed and replaced with a music app in IOS 5. Theres no references to any new touches in IOS 5 apparently but it does show an Ipad 3 Steve Jobs has called the Ipod touch training wheels for the iphone before and seems to dislike it.
Since it's all just speculation at this point, I'll add my own; they'll discontinue the Touch in hopes to get people to switch to the iPad.
I'm just a little confused here. How could you get an iPhone on contract and still pay less than an iPod touch? That doesn't make any sense.
Well my ipod was aprx £300 (64gb) I can get an iphone on a contract for around £99 for the handset and £25 a month tarrif which I'm paying anyway for mobile calls. So in effect the touch cost me three times more than an iphone would have. Then again I wanted something to listen to music without effecting my phone battery so for me the Ipod is by far the better option.
You don't need a link. The iPod Touch is too valuable an asset to Apple to just drop from the lineup.
8gb is completely worthless to me even my tiny keyring drive has 32gb in fact one app on my ipod takes about 6gb on it's own. My real reason for digging this thread up again though is this chart I just found and if it's true it does seem like the Ipod could be dropped. I personally find it hard to believe the ipod makes so little when almost everyone I know has one but if it really is apples least profitable product I guess they might drop it.
I still find it hard to believe people actually want their gaming, movie viewing and music listening wearing down the battery on their phone. That thing acts as a lifeline. Imagine getting lost or attacked and having no battery thanks to Angry Birds. The iPod Touch is a work of genius.
My only other thought is I wonder what that chart would look like if all the app store sales were taken into account as well as I think Ipod Touch users might be more inclined to fill up their devices with them. I tend to think it wouldn't be the lowest on the chart anymore but I wonder if apple considers that.
Completely true. This is also why I feel that major breakthroughs battery life are necessary these days, where people do use their phones for all sorts of other stuff. I know that it does nothing in comparison, and the actual battery itself probably sucks in direct comparison as well, but it bothers me when my 6 year old flip phone (a pretty dam good one at that) does not need a charge for four days, and I charge my ipod four times a day.
