My daughter wants a new iPad.... but she has to pay half of the cost. She is trying to decide between the Air 2 with 64, or a new Pro. She would need about 10 more weeks to save the money for the pro, and I am not sure she needs that anyway. So, I think the Air 2 is just fine because I can get it for $519, plus I would get about 5% more off with a discount program my wife uses. What do you think?
The iPad Air 2 is a great device. That being said, it has been longer than average since a product refresh... So it's possible that an iPad Air 3 might be coming soon. Of course, it's also possible that the iPad Pro is this year's iPad and the iPad Air 2 will just be sold over 2015. More info- http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#iPad
I thought of that Eli.... but a new version would likely be more money, and she wants to keep the price down since she has to pay for half.
I got a new ipad air 2 at Best Buy for $484. Ipad air 3 probably coming this year in the Aug/ Sept time frame. The ipad air 2 will be relevant for at least a few years. I still have and Ipad 1 (as in the first Ipad) that works fine, thank you bvery much. There are many newer games it does work with, but there are still many games it is fine with, also Netflix, internet surfing, e-mail, etc. i figure average reasonable life span is 3 years, early life span 2 years, and long term life span is ???? My first gen iPad in many ways is just fine. It could probably run many of the newer games except that developers just check compatibility with newer ios. Certainly for internet, ios, streaming content (youtube, netflix, amazon, etc) no issues. The ipad air 2 should be good for a long time, unless she needs the newest stuff, then I would wait and get the ipad 3 air in the Aug -Oct time frame.
I've had my Air 2 for just over a year now (happy birthday, baby! ) and am completely delighted with it. It does everything I need it to do. That's a very good deal you mention, and your daughter could use any extra money she makes for all the games she'll want on it!
Actually she doesn't game even a little bit. But she did choose the Air 2, and already bought it. She plans to use it for video watching, iMovie. GarageBand, and MS Office for her homework. She needs to buy a cover, and she wants a BT keyboard, as well.
Good choice. I've owned every iPad from the iPad 2 onward. The iPad Air 2 is the finest iPad I've ever owned and probably the furthest ahead system speciation wise. I see a bright future for the iPad Air 2 even after the next couple iPad interations are released.
I love my Air 2 and even if a new one is released this year, it will still be relevant for a couple of years. I don't think they have reached it's full potential yet. As for keyboards, I received one for my birthday which is excellent. 6 month battery life between charges and excellent BT connectivity. As far as Bluetooth keyboards go I use a Logitech K810 with 3 different devices (2 android, 1 pc) and it's got the same kind of battery life it was expensive though but the backlit feature made it really the only one I had much use for, it's also useful that it can switch between 3 paired devices very quickly as well. That said I can understand wanting one as part of a folding case just for convenience.
I have an iPad mini 2nd Gen (which is pretty much the equivalent of an Air 1) and it's just awesome so an Air 2 should still be absolutely perfect.
Apologies for hijacking the thread! What are the thoughts on the iPad Pro. Am considering buying one.
I'd say it's not for me, too heavy and impractical, if I had to chose, I'd rather get a nice laptop, but it really depends on your habits, I'm fine with a mini 2 for work and games (more of the latter one) but that's my case and I know a couple of friends who have them and are more dedicated to graphical design and they love the iPad Pro, so yeah, it's not for me but I won't say it's bad because it isn't AFAIK.
Thanks. I do use a MBP as my laptop and the mini 2 just like you do but mainly for games. Maybe the iPad Pro is not for me then.
Since she doesn't game at all the iPad should last her a long while before it starts showing its age.
