It is if the developer makes a 5 star rating a condition of the code. Shilling is shady business. You are essentially buying ratings, paying for an artificially inflated public opinion on the game -- effectively, getting people to lie about it, and I have no respect for companies that engage in it. Simple as that. If you shill and I know you're shilling, I'll give my money to a more deserving developer, one who has principles, no matter how much I might otherwise want the app in question.

Thank you for your honesty. Whatever your take on SG; I think MichaelScott character is clearly deranged. Getting banned is the least of his worries right now. This guy is headed for a padded room.
Know what's worse than shilling? BEGGING! I detest developers that come in these forums whining about how they've blown through their "savings" in 6 months making a single game. Or about how much money they're losing on making a game. If that's truly the case, then they're doing it WRONG and pretty stupid to boot if they can't balance a simple checkbook. Then when called out on it all their little friends come crawling out of the woodwork to defend someone they don't even know.

Personally i dont think shilling is bad or dishonorable. Sure they should be honest but i think its a legit business method. Argue all you want, I'm not changing my stance.
No I won't argue about that in fact Big Albie says that shilling is a grey area in marketing and the marketing world is divided about the issue.
Yeah... now you know. It just turned out that this "conspiracy theories" are "conspiracy facts". And trust me guys, I have a "slight" ability to look into peoples minds. It's vital for my job. (If you don't believe me, ask The Bat Outta Hell, Squeaker, New England Gamer, Ravenblack or Songbird - they know what I am talking about...) But now we have the prove that this guy is a troublemaker and always tries to bring disputes to the TA forums - and to us. He tries to pit us against each other. What a jerk. I'll put him on my ignore list now. Congrats, Mr Scott - you are the second person on TA that made it there.
It's a legit method, but so is killing off independent stores with your giant multi-national corporation. Still makes you a dick.
