Downloaded X2 Soccer 2010 last night and it is amazing. It is like a breath of fresh air after owning FIFA for the past four months. The gameplay is astounding and the graphics are almost console-esce. It's really like having your 360 in the palm of your hand. I haven't tried out PES 2010 but I am very excited to try and compare these two soccer pinnacles of the app store.
Thanks for the explination. All the talk about the "great" AI in PES was the thing that was making me want to buy.. but, after hearing your view, I may pass. I'll just dig into X2 and save my $$$
that's actually impressive to hear that you noticed the computer teams playing differently. I would call this good AI if thats really the case.
For me the worst thing in PES: If you pass the ball to someone, you can't approach to the ball with the other player. He just waits for the ball. Too, it takes very loong, till the player even move - and when he moves it's really fast, too fast in my opinion.
PES had better graphics and animations but the gameplay in x2 both 2009 and 2010 are far better than anything on the appstore
I have to dissagree, yes the graphics and animations are better, but to me the overall playability and experience is better than X2
1) Yes you can. As you play the ball the player you control should switch and thus you can change direction and run to the ball, but the same rules apply as described below so his movement will start slowly. 2) This is based on real world physics. Basically it goes like this: If a player is moving and tries to stop or change direction, he will have a momentum acting in the direction he was moving, thus to change he has to counter this, which will have the effect of slowing him down. If the player is still and suddenly starts moving, he has an inertia (which is a resistance to the movement) and will have to oppose this before moving. Additionally he will accelerate at a specific rate, not like some games which have 1 or 2 states of movement.
Having eagerly waited for PES' US Appstore release, and now having played both games, the core gameplay definitely stands out in PES. That doesn't go to say that X2's core gameplay isn't fun - PES just makes things somewhat easier and more 'pretty' with the animations and fluidity of the overall game. I did find goals MUCH easier to score in X2 than I did in PES, and the player models and overall physics just can't keep up with PES. On the other side, i was really missing the commentary while playing PES (as uniform as it might have been in X2)... it took away from the overall feel of the game, but oh well. Right now, I honestly can't choose one over another. I 'feel' like going back and playing PES right now (since i've only gotten through two games, both of which I won 1-0) instead of X2. Let's see how both fare in the coming few days!
