Name argument is good. I have many ways to get the message across that this is a faster more intuitive game than the original without using the original name in the title. I will rethink that because I am coming out with another version. Do you have any problem with my new features if the game were called something else?
They're still uninspired clones, and not good ones at that. I guess it depends what your goals are here- Are you looking for people to say, "Man, that 1stSPIN guy just makes awesome games I can't wait for his next release"... or are you just looking to get rich quick on someone confusing your game with someone else's game? I'm just so dumbfounded by your various threads that I'm finding it increasingly difficult to think you're being serious.
With the 2048 type game I am all about making it a better game and a better experience for players and I truly believe I made it better and the next version which will come out soon will even be better than that. If both current games, name argument aside came out of the blocks at the same time I think my game will hold players' longer and after playing the other players would wonder why these guys did not include diagonal moves and why in the heck do I have to move multiple times to complete the intended action. It's like using a computer like a type writer trying to compete against Word or a 747 to cross the street. Get rich, I've already done that a number of times taking projects from 0 to a few million USD so that does not turn my clock and with a startup budget from $100 to no more than $10,000 USD. How many dinners can you eat and how many countries can you visit if money is not an obstacle? Once you had a taste you know that is not what it's all about. You may know that already. Confusing (2048) was not the intention it was to make it clear that this game was going head to head with the original and that was somewhat explained in the description (and no one has yet made it clear who was the original inventor of this game and how many people had a ride off of it's original game logic and name and which one of these toes am I stepping on). I don't need the name to make that apparent I can do that in the description and will consider that for my next reno of my current reno. Serious, well we all have different views on that but I think that is within the heart of each of us and we only know if we ourselves are serious. I might ask myself that I work with my co producer this coming week when we work from 8am to 11:30pm ++, 15 min lunches and 30 min dinners and no breaks until the job is done. So far this is all a learning because I have to get up to speed with you pros who have been at this for a number of years. Once I do that and I hope soon, I will be able to elaborate now I might be shotting from the hip so excuse me if a few shots hit you in the, well wherever. I am always available for person contact at my email [email protected] and skype LajoCymbalski if you feel some of your comments have to be held back because this is a public forum.
I just seen you icon. You are from Barcelona. I love Spain. Been in Alicante, Madrid, Benidorm, Malaga and a number of beautiful villages. My former wife is Spanish.
I looked at some of the comments from Wired, Puff and Huff etc and it seems the artwork plays a big part at least in the comment or the ones the producing company chose to post. Artwork is one of the most important parts of what makes the animations of today so successful. Even in StarWars as was mentioned, take away the artwork and it is only RDD2 ride rock skate board on a blue screen background.
Again, no actual art, no style, no mechanic, no name was taken in the Monument Valley case. This is like arguing that every game book is a rip off of the Bible because it is a real physical book with words in it. Escher-like as a comment vs Escher2.0. Surely even you can see the difference. The medium is different. The art is all original with inspiration, the game play mechanics are not anything Escher-like either (cause there is no game play mechanic in the painting). The name is different. The sounds are different. The animations different. The 'hooded character' is a princess, not a scary death-like guardian. Most of these differences, alone, would 'excuse' the inspiration. Put them all together and there's no comparison to what you've done with all of your titles. Hell, even my version 2 of Family Feud has less in common with the original, and we made both games! (and before you argue it, yes - we do have the license to use the game show in our game.)
At this point, I am pretty convinced you are doing some sort of research on how people deal with completely clueless individuals. Just in case you arent, I will say it is really sad that you are unable to parse the difference between copying someone's work and being inspired by someone's work. It could be a cognitive deficiency or just a lack of experience being around people that can be inspired and have a moral code of some sort. Either way it's profoundly saddening.
I think I covered that by saying point taken about the name. But I also ask whos owns the name and who put out the game in an App. In other words who's toes am I stepping on. It my not support your agrument which is well put but lets deal with it. I don't know. I was shown the game by Ketchapp, I think that is the name. Is it their toes I am stepping on? I cannot be so hard for you guy, who game and create to give me an answer. Moderator are you still online? Who am I offending.
I think it is quite simple. Take away the influence from Escher and does that make Momentum Valley less of a game? As I tried for a number of times re 2048V2 who's toes am I stepping on. I was shown the game by Ketchapp (not sure if that is they way it is spelled but by now you know my spelling and grammar is so so, I wish I could blame that on being in China for so long but, sadly no. Once again tell me who's toes am I stepping on by using 2048 as part of my title?
I'll play along and assume you are being sincere. You shouldn't be concerned about the name. You shouldn't be concerned about whose toes are being stepped on. You probably shouldn't even be concerned with anything people in this forum are replying to you about. Unless you want respect. See, you don't need any integrity to make an app. You don't need it to make even a wildly successful app. If you want to go out and make the same exact game as someone else, and call it almost the same exact thing, GO FOR IT. You might get sued, you might not, but there is nothing stopping you from doing exactly that and having a potentially successful business. The problem comes when you show up on our doorstep looking for high fives and kudos for being a heel. Now you have been responded to by people who are a good deal more idealistic than me. I don't really care if you are a jerk who copies off other games or not, I will probably just ignore and go on my way. But you decided to make a bunch of topics and spam the forum so I will take some time out of my day to talk to you. If you want respect here, don't copy apps. Don't be a sleazy low life name copying scum. That's the deal plain and simple. It has nothing to do with WHO you are being a jerk to, if you are a jerk expect to be called a jerk. If you don't want respect here, go ahead and stop spamming the forum please.
Yes it is Ketchapp that the link to the trademark was linked for 2048. And using the same or similar mechanics without leveraging the brand is fine. Even though I don't believe your modifications are improvements, even if you hadn't made them using the same mechanics is fine. It is just leveraging other brands which is the problem.
As a buyer, I'd not be happy if I bought your game believing it to be a genuine sequel, then discovering it has actually nothing to do with the original developer. During my early days on the AppStore, I almost got caught, I now often check the devs name on a sequel app and make sure it matches the original devs, it's a pain but I'd much rather my money and download numbers went to the person it's meant for instead of you. There's "inspired by" and then there's "taking the piss"
I don't know why but every time I ask you guys who's toes am I stepping on when I use 2048 as part of a title for 2048v2. So I did a quick google. It seem it belongs to Gabriele Cirulli google below Gabriele Cirulli 2048 is a single-player puzzle game created in March 2014 by 19-year-old Italian web developer Gabriele Cirulli, in which the objective is to slide numbered tiles on a grid to combine them and create a tile with the number 2048. Then I found this in itunes from the developer Ketchapp inspired by Gabriele Cirulli game available on the web: http://gabrielecirulli.github.io/2048/ Join the numbers and get to the 2048 tile! Swipe to move all tiles. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one. Get to the 2048 tile, and reach a high score! Now I have a few questions Question 1 I see this company uses 2048 as their icon no other addons like K2 KV2 version just 2048. Is there any difference in that icon number wise from the way Gabriele described his game? Question 2 Is there any difference in the logic of the game. In other words did they change the logic in any way. Question 3 Did Gabriele give permission to use the game? Question 4 Did Gabriele get any compensation from Ketchapp Got to run to finish the other matter I was working on yesterday and will be back hopping to read some answers.
You can hope all you like. I'm not doing your research for you. Whats wrong with you finding the answers for yourself?why do you think others should do your research for you? Your last sentence reads like " I've got better things to do so you can find these answers to questions for me." No thanks. I've heard Google is a good place for answers, or you could always contact Gabriele yourself for 3 and 4?
1,000,000% Shameless Clone You're joking me? I hate to say it but all 3 of your games are shameless clones. You can try sugarcoat it by saying that you've added new features but the reality is that you are ripping off other developers. It is Indie developers like you that scare the crap out of the rest of us...
