Wow, what an odd/awesome thread, I've honestly never thought about the difference, or even the fact that those are two different words. Thanks for making me think! I've been trying to avoid doing that all day at work.

LoL, I totally agree, although my biggest pet peeve is when people say "boLth", like "I got this game and that game, i got them boLth". It's not bolth with an L, it's "bo-th" dammit!
You just made my head explode.
Wow, not only do we like most the same bands, but also most the same good things in life!

There's a quote from the Simpsons that answers the OP's question.
In a response from a rapper, when Skinner corrected him for saying "ain't":

    "It's idiomatic, biatch."

Thanks for all those thoughts everyone. I took the risk that a few might mistake my question as that coming from an anally retentive pompous English twonker when I started this thread (having not lived in the UK for about 8 years now though, I'm not sure I could manage that anyway) so it was really nice to get so many very cool answers.

    Cheers all:)

Exactly the same as burglarize, except the correct word to use. The language is English, so our spellings / words are the correct ones :)
