iPod Touch will not turn on and Windows says it "malfunctioned"

I was trying to charge my iPod (it was on, and I put it in sleep mode) and I plugged it into my cousins computer USB slot. Now it's not turning on, not charging and iTunes doesn't load it up.

If you help me out, I personally will buy a 15$ giftcard for iTunes for you. I might be taking it to an Apple Store tomorrow, or buying a new one.

    Any suggestions are apperciated.

Make sure the driver(s) installed correctly. If not then it's gonna be an issue with the USB port itself. Try a USB port in the back of the computer (if its a tower) or a different USB port if its a laptop. If that fails then try this:

Go and purchase a new firewire/usb 2.0 cord and then go about it that way. It should work with the new cord but this is not an iPod problem, it's a windows thing (another reason to use a mac :)) I assure you its the computer itself and nothing else. There are some things in the registry that you can delete, but I will hold off on those until you try the above 'treatments'.

It is probably an error with the 4th gen iPod and your cousins computer. I would try DFU mode. Then if that doesn't work....always does....take it to apple and they'll fix it right up no problem. Hope I helped.

I also believe it's the laptop. Windows just aren't good for iPods and yeah I was thinking about it being a problem with the iPod, but if it is the laptop, DFU mode isn't necessary. Try another port or maybe another computer.

And I was here first iphoneprogrammer. Damn iPhone keyboard and load times on 3G! Lol

I guarantee you 100% its the computer's problem and not the iPod.

Have you tried it in a different computer since? That is what I would do first.

    Edit: what they said :p

Also hold power button to see if charge icon appears, hard reset by holding both power and home button together till you see apple logo(15-20sec), sometimes iPods freeze on black screens, and if it doesn't work in another computer and hard reseting doesn't work, put in DFU mode or restore if possible.

Just keep resetting it. Hold the home and power until it restarts.

Try this if the above fails:

Turn off ipod...hold home and power for 10 seconds theb let go of power and keep holding home button for 30 more seconds.

    I said if possible.

Did you try hard reset? If new computer doesn't work or hard reset or DFU mode or new cable. Well, pray apple fixes it. L no they will it might be the easiest bet also and I know it'll be a pain to put everything back on but it happens.

hold home and power for 10 seconds.....then try it (if you havent done that already)

if everything else fails just buy a wall charger from best buy......or find a charger (phone or camera) that has a usb port in it, because if it works in your computer and the forced restart does not work then it is most likely the computer, older computers cant handle the ipods

Hold down the Home and Sleep button at the same time. If that doesn't work, plug it back into your cousins computer, open itunes, and see if it detects it. Also, try syncing it to see if it turns on. If nothing works, buy a new one.:)

download tiny umbrella and see if you can force a restore with that. Also, download iPhone explorer and see if anything shows up.
