Yesterday my iPod went for a quick swim in a laundry mishap. It wasn't completely soaked, but the bottom was wet and water got in the rubber case. When I grabbed it out I saw that it still worked and threw it on my bed. Then a little later I picked it up and it wasn't turning on. It looks like some water seeped in under the screen, and the indicator in the headphone jack is pink. It's been sitting out in a warmish area drying, and I can tell the water is evaporating. Is there anything I can do myself to try and fix it, or should I just get a new iPod Touch 3G? Or, should I take some more money and buy an iPad?
Most often given advice: put it in a bag of rice. My iPod 2G went for a ride in the washer. Came out fine after leaving it alone for a wekk.
Well I've read that a lot of people say dry rice is the trick, but all that does is absorb the water that evaporates out of the device. It can't possibly have some ability to suck out the water in the device, or does it?
It sucks the water at the edges, which in turn sucks more water from deeper in the device. Rice is ultra-absorbent.
Looks like it fried when it was turned on in the wash the day of the incident. There isn't anymore water under the screen, and I even lifted up the screen to spray for any water left, but the iPod won't turn on. Now I can't decide whether to get an iPod Touch 3G 32gb, or an iPad 16gb.
Seishu, Personally I'd got with an iPad, if you've no need for another phone, which I can understand completely, and you don't want another iPod, then go with the iPad. If I was in your situation, I would.
