My warranty replacement refurbished iPod has done this a few times now. I put it in standby and when I go to unlock it there is only darkness. No response when I press any button or plug it in to the PC or wall socket. The only way I get it to turn back on is to hold the power button and the home button for like 10 seconds. I remember this happening to my bros brand new 4G touch as well. Any thoughts?
Fast reply. So this isn't normal huh? Do you think they can fix it or you think I'll need a new iPod?
Clearly isn't normal. Most likely, they will send your device away, and whether you get the same physical device fixed or a new one is irrelevant. All your data will be transfered, and if it's engraved, they'll engrave the new one too. Expect to be without your iPod for a few weeks though. Also, if it's something wrong with the device and the water sensor isn't tripped, you probably won't have to pay anything if you're still under warranty.
Should probably note though that the water sensor is way sensitive, and has been known to trip in areas of high humidity (think tropical humidity). So if the i-pod has had any swimming lessons or been splashed, make sure you've got some cash to pay for the repair if necessary. The water sensor is just for Apple's reference though, doesn't affect the device's operation as far as I know.
Ya. Water of course would affect the devices operation and I wouldn't be surprised if water damage is what has caused this problem. But the cost of the repair won't be the cost of a new iPod as Apple can scrap the stuff not affected. My friend's iPod had a screen with bubbles behind it because of water damage and Apple would fix it for 119.99.
Yea I agree, substantial water contact will more than likely damage the circuits, I was just pointing out how sensitive the water sensor is, and that he should be prepared to pay a bit if there's any chance it could have tripped; even if water damage isn't the cause of the problem, Apple will still say it is just because the sensor tripped.
