I'm interested to see what people around here think about iPod Touch users having to pay. Beta users will get it free, but everyone else had to pay $10 for the update, or get it in illegal fashion. I am running a 3.0 beta, so I technically wouldn't have to pay, but I'm going to DFU back to 2.2.1 on release day, just so I can give Apple the money that it earned. I don't know about you all, but I think that Apple has earned the VERY cheap $10 that they are charging for 3.0. I'll pay. I'm sure that 50% of people will download it illegally because Apple won't DRM and sign a for-pay firmware to a device. All they'd have to do is have you register the firmware to whatever devices you want to use it with, predownload, and there you go. But, instead most people will just update from beta, or get it illegally. Discuss all these things, and any related topics.

I don't think it's too fair. Don't give me that crap about that law. It's BS. If it were true, for 1.1.4 we would have paid $20 (as it was), then to get 2.0 (which had 2.0 and 1.1.4) we would have had to pay $20+. Same now for 3.0. That is if you did not update.

Instead, not 1.1.4 users can get 2.0 and everything for $10. I think it's unfair

Only if you are still back in pre-1.1.4. And it would be $40, $20 for 1.1.4, then $10 for the rest.

But I think they should just be free

    Progress isn't free, and $10 really isn't that bad. Wasn't 2.0 $20?

Well, how could a person not stay pre 2.0?!?!?!??!? Come on all those awsome apps on the app store.

But, that what early adopters tend to get. To get the features first, you pay more.

    Lol. You've been in juvy?

But, they have no good system capable of doing that.

Exactly. WTF is up with those "tea party" tax protesters. Progress isn't free. Freedom isn't free.

No. If you're going to correct people, at least get your facts straight. 1.1.3 was $20. It is often called the January Software Update. 1.1.4 was free for everyone, bug fixes only for non-payers. As was 1.1.5.

on topic, but a bit off, I will pay for 3.0, I'm just in the process of downloading beta, how do you install it?

You must be a beta tester for an app. You Shift key + Restore and browse to it. If you aren't a beta tester, you'll get this nify purple screen.

Ok. You must be beta testing some app for some dev. If you haven't a clue what I'm talking about, you aren't. You must then obtain 3.0b3 from some location. I'm not giving you a link, and you should probably obtain it from the dev. If you aren't beta testing, you'll get a purple screen, which is very difficult to get rid of. Then, once you get the firmware, you go into iTunes and go to your iPod, and Shift + Restore. Browse around until you find your IPSW file. Likely called iPod2,1_3.0_xxxxxf.ipsw. Can't recall all the letters that go in for the x's.
