I think that said iconic character should probably be one specific to the iDevice, or at least one that originated on it. So, I would say Toy Bot or the Rolandos.
Do you think Rolando is different enough to not be a clone of PSP's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LocoRoco?
I agree that an original idevice character would make the best iconic mascot, but sometimes a ported character will find a home on another platform if they did poorly on previous platforms. In rare cases they can promote eachother.
I thought this was about characters, not game types... What I meant was that characters that existed on other platforms before the iPhone don't really count as an iconic to the device. And for the record, I do think Rolando is different enough, although I have never played LocoRoco.
Well there are plenty of original characters on the iDevice platform that can possibly qualify, if they had exclusive promotion from apple, Such as packaging or even exclusive commercials for said game featured only on iDevices. I agree with Hodapp's post about that speciffic matketing stratagy.
Yep for sure, most notable would be either Crash Bandicoot, or Solid Snake... But no "Official" mascot...
Crash Bandicoot is already taken by PS1, and as for poor old snake, well he isn't even in 3D . I'm not against MGS on other platforms, I just think that Konami made an Oopsie (with a capital 'O') for the iPhone
I wouldnt call it an oopsie, MGST joined the shooting gallery genre and its the best one. Very good controls and development, its just not what we were used to or expected from konami for the MGS franchise.
I'm gonna best honest, as a mascot for the iPhone, I gotta go with the little triange ship in cube field. Even if it's a port of cube runner, cube field's gotta be the most well known game for the iPhone. Show me one person that doesn't have cube field on there, and I will assure you they are in some way mentally ill.
