    Hiya

I currently have an iphone but am moving over seas for a year where i can't really use my phone without massive costs and a different sim won't work (unless i can get it unlocked).

I have another old SE handset though for calls but the main thing i will miss is my iphone gaming. I love it.

I was planning just using my phone as an ipod... turn off phone modes etc. Keep wifi on.

However... i read that the second gen ipod touch is faster than the iphone.

My phone tends to crash lots in games like CJS and stutters when emails come through.

The battery also drains VERY quickly when playing 3D games.

Anyone able to compare how the touch stacks up against a phone?

U rekon i am better off buying a new touch.... or waiting to see if any new models are announced with 3.0 OR just holding on for an eventual unlock for the phone and 3.0

I would suggest you sell your iPhone, and buy a iPod touch. (you won't lose money)

There is much less lag in bigger games on the 2nd gen touch for me than on my iPhone. I use my brothers touch now for certain games because the iPhone limits the game too much to even be played.

Plus, some apps are made differently for the touch because it can handle more. Like 2XL Supercross has more computers to race against during a game. And Galaxy on Fire I heard is much better on a touch.

You won't have anything to lose by switching over to a 2nd gen touch. I think you will really notice a difference.

The iPod probably won't get updated until September, and the iPhone will probably be next month-ish. Besides, these devices really hold their value very well.

Oh wow i didnt realise stuff like the 2xl motocross example!

Good idea about selling the phone too to make up for the loss.

I wonder how apple / app store will handle things when eventually an even more powerful idevice is released?

Will you have to make sure yours is suitable for the app you download or will they limit what you can see on the app store?

How do you find the battery life on the ipod touch?

Idk the answers to your other questions

    On apples site they say

    "Battery:
    * Built-in rechargeable lithium ion battery
    * Music playback time: Up to 36 hours when fully charged
    * Video playback time: Up to 6 hours when fully charged"

But if you mean, how much battery life remaining like percent charged. There are apps that tell you, like [app]Free Memory[/app].

Ah no sorry. I meant how long does the battery seem to last on your bro's ipod touch when you are playing games compared to the iphone?

if you're going to be carrying another phone, the reduced bulk of the touch vs. the iphone might be worth it to you

Oo...it's definitely longer. Since it's not constantly searching for emails, receiving texts, and doesn't search for my location etc... I get a lot longer play time out of it.

Yeah the 2G touch is supposed to be the fastest. I have an original iPhone, which is great for gaming. It feels more comfortable to hold, being fatter and the speed is the same as the 3G. It's a bit like a fat PSP instead of the PSP slim, which for anybody who has every experienced it is kind of uncomfortable because it is TOO thin. One thing that I wish Apple would do is to make their idevices less slippery. My iPhone is like a bar of soap and sometimes slips out of my hands, but thanks to my superpower of lightning fast reaction times I catch it (most of the time ;)). I think Apple made their idevices slippery on purpose so people bought new ones when they broke their old ones ;).

If I were you, I'd wait until the next substantial idevice comes out, whether it is an iPhone or an iPod Touch, it is bound to have more processing power. I would hate to buy a new idevice to find out a couple days later that a new idevice will be launched :p

Yeah I stopped playing that on my phone and keep my Trism games going on the touch because of lag and it ends chains and I lose points for that. But that could also be because of 3.0 firmware.

You could get one of those protective silicon skins for it, make it less slippery but of course less shiny. :)
