    So now that we all know the new iPhone 4 will have a built in gyroscope I was wondering how cool it would be to have a pair of glasses that connected to the iPhone to put a fully immersible world in front of you... Augmented reality apps are cool but really just a tiny window you look through, where if you had a pair of glasses on connected to that same device I think the entire experience would change! I know there are some "Movie Glasses" that simulate a 50 in tv screen that work on the iphone (but only works with movie as far as I know), but I'm looking for something that will fill your entire field of vision in the glasses and allow you to either play a fully rendered game and use your iDevice as your VR stick, or an augmented reality type that still utilizes the camera but uses an overlay. The possibilities are really endless, and I see the new devices with gyroscope as being a portable VR machine, if we could only get the glasses now....

    That would actually be pretty cool, I guess the movie glasses would still provide a pretty good experience given the right game.
    If someone was to develop hardware like you mentioned though with the iDevice as the controller, might be difficult to use as you wouldn't be able to see or feel the buttons, but then I guess it might be possible with a bit of a practise.

    Nice idea, but I don't think it would work very well.
    For a start it wouldn't be able to be closer than ~ 3 inches away otherwise most people would have trouble focusing on it. This would mean that it would be pretty bulky and the screen wouldn't take up all of your vision.
    And even at 4 or so inches away, I wouldn't be happy about having something that close to my eyes.

    I can’t help but insert a Star Trek reference into this;

    It has a resolution of 1 to the 4th power!

    Well since this has been bumped... I looked into the movie glasses once, and decided they weren't worth any further attention when I saw the resolution their screens displayed. Simulating a 50" screen might sound impressive, but trying to watch a film on a 320x240 screen just isn't gonna be pretty at all.
