I read today that there the iPhone Nano might become a reality, which is basically a cheaper and smaller version of the iPhone 4, in order to compete with the lower priced and hugely popular Android devices. It is said it will feature dual SIM, but with less advanced and expensive hardware. The device will sell for around US$200. Really, Apple?

Can't see it being much use to be honest I read somewhere it doesn't have internet although who knows what's true. I think their small enough though I'd be happier seeing them made bigger and using the space for battery capacity.

If they are trying to battle android I think this is completely the wrong gameplan as I'd buy an android phone over it anyday.

Now that the iPhone has actually arrived at Verizon there is no longer the easy rumor feed from there so they need something new to rumor about it appears.

An Apple rumor a day, keeps people chomping, er, talking. Who knows how many will actually come to fruition.

I think an iPhone Air is more likely, slimmer, maybe slightly smaller, less powerful, cheaper, no compensating on quality.

I think this will do well. I can imagine a lot of people who don't want to dish out the money for a serious smart phone or iDevice would still be interested in a compact, good-quality cell phone that has access to a huge number of helpful apps. This wouldn't be for gamers.

Apple was smart enough and bold enough to create the iPad, despite the fact that there was no clear market or interest or demand for a small tablet; and that has proven very successful. Meanwhile, there is a clear and established market for both cell phones and for smart devices. So instead of relying on the creation of a new, unproven niche for a new device - as they did with the iPad - they are simply adapting a popular device to fit into an established market. For consumers shopping for a new phone, this will put an accessible, affordable iOS device in the line-up right alongside various other cell phones with much less to offer. I think it will be a very attractive option, and one that will generate a lot of interest.
Again, though, this isn't aimed at gamers. It's a feature-packed, app store-friendly option for the average cell phone buyer.
