Following the non-release of an iPhone 5 earlier this month, it made me wonder if perhaps Apple are tidying up their release event so all 3 devices are updated at the same time each year. Rumours have been running wild since before the iPad 2 even came out, that a 3rd gen would be available before Christmas. I also took part in some market research asking if I would be interested in a watered-down tablet at a cost of about £180. Could this be the case? What do you want from a new iPhone/Touch, or nothing at all? etc. etc.
I'd be happy with specs similar to the Ipad 2 anything less and I doubt I'll bother updating. I'd like to see higher than 64gb options but can't see it happening this time round. Some site's around the web have suggested they might not bother with updating the Ipod again, if that's the case I can pretty much guarantee I'll not be buying another apple device but I think this would be incredibly dumb on apples part and most likely not true.
Personally, I will not buy any new iPad or iPod, or iPhone unless the new iOS is incompatible, or there is a very significant feature my old device never can get. The only downside about getting a new device is that it is harder to exploit (jailbreak), and you need to fork out money. As for me, I have a iPad 2 and a iPod touch 4th generation, and I used to have a iPhone 4.
The only reason I hope they release a iPod touch 5th gen, is so that I can get an iPod touch 4th gen for my wife cheap. But seriously. Like someone above said, unless iOS updates become incompatible, I won't be needing to upgrade.
I'm hoping for an iPhone 5 to come out this year D:, as I have my old Behold phone and a iPod Touch 2g i'd like to replace.
Money printing. I'll probably hold on to my 4th gen Touch for a while, I can't see it struggling with any games in the near future, perhaps I'll upgrade in 2-3 years time.
Steve Jobs has already said that 2011 will be the year of the iPad 2, which kinda implies that they were crushing the rumors of another iPad coming out this year. With that being said a higher resolution iPad with be the one that's worth getting for those still waiting. The iPad 2 is great but the screen looks incredibly average and maybe even blurry if you compare it to the iPhone 4's display. Now imagine the iPad 3 with a better display than the Nook Color, now that's gonna be something special As for the next iPhone, I have a feeling that it's gonna be as impressive as when the 3GS was announced. A decent update, but nothing mindblowing. If the trend follows then it will be the iPhone in 2012 that will blow everyone away. iPhone 3G = Big leap from the first one (Thinner design, no more of that edge dial up surfing on the go) iPhone 3GS = decent improvement over the 3G (Same design, better camera, video record and MUCH faster processor iPhone 4 = Bigger leap from the 3GS from the 3G (arguably sleeker design, retina, flash, facetime camera) iPhone 5 = ? It's almost as if Apple purposely designs their releases this way because phones in the US are locked into 2 year contracts. That way you won't feel completely screwed over if you currently own last year's model. Of course there are many people who own iPhones who don't care about having the latest and the greatest but I would say that there are also many gadget/Apple enthusiasts out there that would love to burn money on a new model every year if it weren't for such the high no commitment cost
This is why the iPhone 5 delay is so frustrating, I'm a 3GS user with a 2 year old phone and a battery that now lasts about six hours. I wont buy an iPhone 4 because I don't want to be stuck with a year old phone on a new 2 year contract. I also don't feel the iPhone 4 is a large enough upgrade over the 3GS to warrant buying one.
It's not a delay because Apple never even announced the next iPhone. While Apple has released the last 4 models during the June/July time period in the US, it's really silly to always assume things based on rumors and track history. As for the the battery issue that's part of the reason why Apple Care exists. Of course most people don't buy warranties, but that's the risk they take if they plan to use the phone on a regular basis and constantly running down the battery. Apple also offers battery replacements for 80 dollars if it's really that bad and if you even willing do it yourself, there's battery kits you can buy for less than 20 dollars and youtube instructions on how to easily replace it yourself. As long as the internet exists, there will always be a solution out there for people who look
Although it would be cool to see that, Apple files patents for tons of stuff that never comes about, at least not for a few years. I wouldn't get uber-expectant of it.
