It's time to renew my father's phone plan, and he's never had an iDevice before and pretty new to smartphones (too busy working). From the 3 options we have in Canada, 3GS, 4, and 4S, I'm unsure which one to get. He only uses the phone for calls, a GPS maybe, and internet (thanks a lot for the forced data plan Apple /sarcasm). As for entertainment maybe he'll play something like solitaire and that's about it.... yeah he's not really into games or music. So should I get him a 3GS, 4, or 4S? 3GS is free, 4 is $59 or something, and 4S is $159, all on 3-year contract. The only reason I think I should get a 4S is it's a bit more future-proof and it looks nicer, as for functionality I think he'll do ok with even an iPhone 2G. So any professional working class here? What device do you have? Oh and those are my only 3 choices. Not really looking to get an Android-powered device.
Sounds like your dad would be like mine - he had the 1st gen from day one until it finally died and he got a 4. He has word games on it, solitaire games and a few board games. Mostly he has AAA, CNN, Dragon, stuff like that. For 4/4S - make sure your dad has the right computer requirements to sync. 3 year contract? Wow that's rough - I thought the 2 year contracts in the states were bad!
Get him the 4S. The retina display will be easier on the eyes and as you said it will be a bit more future proof. He may also like to play around with siri especially if he has a hard time type and texting on it since you said it would be his first smartphone
Thanks for replies. We got him the 4S (white). By the way did anyone experience that the 4S home button is misaligned? It's not that noticeable but still kind of ugly. I'll take a picture later.
