I was wondering since I'm AT&T and I own a LG Shine...I was wondering if I could buy a iPhone WITH NO DATA PLAN OR ANYTHING. And put my Sim Card from my LG Shine into the iPhone I bought (for example) and have a iPhone that can call etc...But with out a data plan, just the same plan I had on my LG Shine? Or do iPhone's have a special made Sim Card so no one can do this? OR could I buy a iPhone3GS and have no Sim Card in it but use the camera and have apps on it? But, in order for the iPhone to function does it have to have a Sim Card? Thanks!
I suppose if you had an unlocked iPhone, then you could use a Pay & Go sim card in it. But yeah, the iPhone will operate fine without the sim card (but not as a phone obviously). I know this sounds strange, but I have an original iPhone with no sim card in it which I use like an iPod Touch (but with more features such as the camera). Then I have my old Samsung D900i which I use as my phone. That way, I don't have to take my iPhone into college everyday with the fear of it getting nicked or damaged (everything gets stolen in my city, lol).
Unlocked means that you can use any sim card with it For example, when I had my unlocked iPhone, I used an 02 Pay & Go sim card from my old phone.
How do you unlock it? Cuase if I can get a iPhone with the same Sim Card from my LG Shine, I want to get a iPhine but if I can;t it's possible to just have a iphone wiht no phone correct? But will it still finction with out a Sim Card (Turn on, run apps, etc..)?

Why would you want to spend all that money on a new phone and make it a touch when I bet in September the new touch comes out?
Maybe because a 8gb 3gs is cheaper than a 8gb touch and when his plan is up he can change his phone to an iphone.
Maybe I miss read but I thought their is no 8g 3gs it sill just 3g and it's $499 without a contract so it's still cheaper to just get the touch I might be wrong though
Then it will reject the sim card and the phone won't work as a phone. I would reccommend searching on ebay. You can cheaply buy a new iPhone 3G already unlocked and jailbroken (if you want it to be). When the original iPhone came out (RRP was about £400 - £500), I bought one about 1 month after it's launch for only £200 on ebay, brand new, already unlocked and jailbroken (althought I ended up de-jailbreaking it). And it ended up being the 2nd best purchase of my life (after my motorcycle) .
Lol @ the motorcycle thing. Could I just walk into a Apple Store and say "Can I buy the iPhone but wiht no contract please?" And pay the big $$$ then either: A: I would have to unlock it. OR B: It's unlocked and I can have apps on the iPhone? Cause if I can just buy one and sync apps onto it and use the camera which would be great for me. Or do I have to unlock it?
