I dream of Verizon This is exactly true in my area, too. Whenever the iPhone becomes available on Verizon I will drop my ATT plan and happily pay whatever crazy breaking your contract fee I have to so I can actually use my iPhone as a PHONE! Please let the rumors be true; that would be the best Christmas present ever.
Will Verizon ever get the iPhone? Sure, I can believe they will, but not in the time period your initial post suggested. My understanding of the FCC is that if you wanted to change the radio spectrum your current device uses (i.e. iPhone uses UMTS and GSM, whereas Verizon uses CDMA), then you would need to re-submit that device and as I said before, all the tech sites trawl the FCC database on a regular basis and would've let us know that such an iPhone variant was on it's way. Now, the other way it could happen would be for Apple to release an iPhone that uses LTE, which is GSM's UMTS based standard, which Verizon is rolling out as stated by AttackOfThePwned, but again, this won't be by Christmas! So to re-iterate, will Verizon ever get an iPhone? Sure. Will Verizon get the iPhone by Christmas? Not bloody likely - although if I'm wrong I'll send you some cash by PayPal to grab the game of your choice from the app store.
