    Hi everyone,

I'm lucky to be upgrading to the iPhone X tomorrow from the iPhone 5.

I was wondering if anyone knew what will happen when I plug my X into iTunes and I try to back it up from my iPhone that's running iOS 10.3.3? Will it refuse and I'll be stuck?

I can't update to iOS 11 on my iPhone 5, so I'm not so sure what my options are?

    I'd really appreciate any input.

    Thanks for your time!

So what happened? I think you'd probably be fine but I don't know for sure.

    You'll be fine

Back up your iPhone 5 with 'Encrypt iPhone backup' selected (this will backup your passwords as well). Then restore from iTunes to your new phone.

The process is different than before; none of your apps will be transferred to the phone via iTunes. Once the restore is complete, all of your apps will be added to your new phone over-the-air, so they will start downloading and be added 1 by 1. Kinda cool, but will look like the restore didn't work correctly since no apps are added through the restore.

Of course, any apps with are no longer compatible aren't added.

    Good Luck!

Your iTunes backup from iOS 10.3.3 will be restore-compatible with your iPhone X. It will only have some new security setup features your 5 wouldn’t have access to. Enjoy your new phone :)
