A6 is confirmed to only be a dualcore.

Almost every design they showed at the event this morning just seemed a bit odd to me. The new 4 inch screen and A6 chip are tempting, but the back of the iPhone 5 throws me off with its black/slate combo. It just doesn't go well together. And as for the new nano, I'm glad someone mentioned the Nokia Lumia, because when I first noticed it I was trying to think of a recent device that shared a similar design. I have to agree with the others that prefer the new iPod Touch design over the iPhone 5.

I was however, excited when they released the details on the release of iOS6.

Overall, a mix of excitement and dissapointment for me personally.

Where would you get a connection without WiFi for that?

You don't need an internet connection to use a GPS. The 3G iPad, for instance, has a GPS chip built in, and you don't need to be on 3G nor WiFi to use it. The navigation information is pulled directly from the satellites.

Assisted GPS, on the other hand, does use the internet to provide more accuracy to a GPS signal, but that's completely separate from the actual GPS receiver.

    This is the 3G iPad
    "Wi-Fi
    Digital compass
    "Assisted GPS" and GLONASS"
    Cellular

I'm not sure if you're trying to prove me wrong, but either way your post backs up my point. :)

GLONASS stands for Global Navigation Satellite System, which, as Apple clearly distinguishes, is NOT the same as "assisted GPS." It is a separate component that does not need an internet connection to work, but that can be backed up by the "assisted GPS" if such connection is available.

Was anyone else disappointed with the Keynote? Specifically the iPhone 5? Ive been an Apple fanboy since the first iPhone release and have purchased each subsequent device on release day. This will be the first time I do not do that. As a company who touts themselves as the forefront of smartphone design I was a surprised to hear and see that this is what the iPhone 5 will be. They could have done so much more to make the iPhone 5 better. NFC, yada yada, no one really uses that anyway. So thats not a deal breaker. But Apple hasnt really introduced anything groundbreaking since Siri. Speaking of which, Siri obviously hasn't stood up to the hype. I can't recall the last time I used the service...and its not what Apple touted it to be.

A6 Chip, LTE, 4" Screen? Besides the A6 These features have been out and on other devices for a very long time now. I have to side with the majority that are upset with Apple introducing features to the iPhone a few years after they are already introduced.

LTE could have and should have been introduce on the 4S. But they market the phone as having a completely reengineered antennae design.

The larger screen is a welcomed edition, but keep the proportions the same. If you make the device taller why not make it slightly wider as well? Granted it is easier to hold a device the less wide it is, but I digress. I wish Apple didn't play it safely this time around. It looks too similar to the 4S and 4 to justify a purchase or even a second look. 4", redesigned dock connector (Seriously...why not make the switch to micro USB? I, truthfully, do not see why that would be an issue), and a metal backing. Thats the extent to this redesign.

The camera...how do you not improve the camera even slightly? Throw a gem in there and lets call it a day boys...the marketing department will make sure that no one realizes its the same camera. Screw going thinner and lighter. The device is thin enough. Why not add a better camera? One that records 60FPS at 1080p...much like the Galaxy S3. I hear great things about that camera.

All in all I was not impressed. The design is too similar to that of the previous iPhone, with a slight spec bump, redesigned dock connector and some features that should have already been introduced. Camera was a big let down...

I am done complaining for now. And I welcome all criticisms of my above post. I have yet to have an intelligent conversation with anyone of my friends or coworkers about this; and I am sure that someone can address certain flaws in my opinion. In which case I will address them and be accepting of them.

EDIT: I will say this, the iPod Touch update is a welcomed addition and the one thing that actually surprised me in a good way. Love the new colors and the spec bumps. The new nano looks strikingly similar to the Nokia Lumina though. Which could potentially cause some trouble down the road.

There is on main thing I don't understand about your point of view. You are criticizing the modifications made to this new iteration of the iPhone, considering them insignificant enough to prevent you from upgrading (like you have been for years). HOWEVER, you bought the iPhone 4S last year, which shouldn't even be considered an upgrade, more of a "refresh," of the iPhone 4... And you didn't have a problem with that?

You are now getting a much more redesigned product than you did a year ago, which is going to satisfy all of those customers who wanted a bigger display, but you find it to be less of a game-changer than the silly 4S refresh?

I'm a bit disappointed with the iPhone5. I didn't see anything that would make me buy the iPhone5. And in my opinion, I think my Samsung S3 is slightly better. But I still want to try this new iPhone soon when it is available to compare.

I'm really disappointed. Was hoping this to be as big a step as my previous one from 3G to 4, but it's more like 4 to 4S.

Now if it weren't for AppStore supremacy and the thing that I have bought apps there for 4 years now I'd be switching to Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Might still do, but it's 50/50 with iPhone5.
One thing is certain though - Ibwon't be switching anytime soon, unless the AppStore is starting to fill with stuff incompatible with iPhone 4. And by stuff here I mean AAA RPG games and such.

I hope everyone frustrated with the incredible refinements of the iPhone 5 switches to Android. What a glorious moment that will be.

Really? I think the iPod touch had the best improvements. I like the iPhone 5's improvements as well, but since we already knew about pretty much everything from leaks, I was underwhelmed. Was hoping there was some exciting info that hadn't been leaked yet.

Are you somehow implying that people are willfully ditching their iPhones to get a Samsung/Android phone out of spite because they are not impressed by the improvements?

Lots of people have been holding back on getting a new iPhone for a year or two now in hopes of seeing major improvements..Samsung Phones just happen to be another alternative with some rather attractive features that were on the wish lists of some people.

I think most of these people are also iPad users who have more or less sidelined their iPhones in favour of gaming /working on a larger screen. I mean I can't make it through the day without my iPad..but I haven't done more than basic texting, photo taking and making calls on my iPhone... as such.. much of the refinements and improvements that the iPhone 5 brings is lost on me.

Does anyone else think the iphone 5 looks a bit silly looking I just mean it just looks really strangely tall and narrow, my own phone has a 4 inch screen and it doesn't look like that, I think there is just to much bezel or something.

Also a bit confused on how their selling a cable adapter for docks and stuff yet at the same time saying it doesn't support video out or ipod out, if the dock can't play the music then why would you even bother.

I'm watching the keynote on my touch while writing this and don't get me wrong I think some of the improvements are very nice but nothing really groundbreaking.

Because I expected the 4S to be a refresh. I expected the iPhone 5 to be astonishing. Much like the iPhone 4 was (that is, how much of a differet design it was from the 3GS.) There product cycle seems to be Redesign, Spec Bump, Redesign, Spec Bump, Redesign, Spec Bump. I wanted the iPhone 5 to be as great as the iPhone 4 release was. As thats the way the pattern seemed to go. I didnt have the problem with the 4S mainly because the 4 was a bit slow and the 4S improved upon that and followed the pattern.

The iPhone 5 is a great phone. Its just not as great as I was expecting it to be. The design is too similar to the iPhone 4.
