Do you think most current games will put out free updates to optimize performance on the new phones? or you think most games will be the same but able to play on the new phones?

I have 100 games and I am hoping most of them translate well to the new phone or it will be a waste

All current apps will be able to run on the iPhone 4 and according to Steve Jobs they will look slightly better, even though they haven't been changed, because of the increase in pixels (which will make existing games look slightly sharper).

I doubt many developers will release free updates for iPhone 4 optimisations, but they'll probably just optimise the graphics for iPhone 4 in their new games, or they'll make new iPhone 4 exclusive games.

So the apps wouldn't have to be remade for the higher res? I assumed they would, for some reason.

No, they won't have to be remade. The iPhone 4 has a resolution of 960 x 640 which is exactly twice as much as the existing iPhones which are 480 x 320.
This means that existing apps should work perfectly on the iPhone 4.

Imagine a dot formed out of a 4x4 square of pixels on a current iPhone 3G/3GS. That dot will be exactly the same size on an iPhone 4, but it will be made of 8x8 smaller pixels.
So some parts of apps (i.e - text, buttons, Apple UI etc) will look even sharper.

Ipod Touch game player person like thing????
    11th dimension
since the res is exactly double apps will "scale" up just as in the ipad but will cover the entire screen. things like text and buttons will be automaticcly anti-alised and the screen is better anyways.

Speaking of that, I heard the iPhone 4 was delayed to July 14th. Is that true?

I know pre orders are getting pushed back. As each day goes by, shipping dates are pushed back due to unexpected heavy demands.

i read something like this (14.07) on the apple store. I saw a screenshot with the buttons of the applestore and a text next to it stating: bla bl bla 14th July *wohooo* once again, apple hasent managed to get thing right (in regard to ship)

So can we expect to see 4 versions then in the appstore soon?
    iPod/iPhone, iPhone4, iPad, universal!?

This isn't entirely true. Only apps that use native iPhone UI components will benefit from sharpness improvements. Games almost always use their own UI components, so everything will be pixel doubled and look identical on all iPhones.

I kinda doubt you'll see a lot of *games* taking advantage of the 4x resolution of the iPhone. That's 4x more pixels to draw! Instead, I'd rather have 4x the performance/effects, or 4x the battery life.

PS:I know it wouldn't actually be a factor of 4, but it'll be a big difference

And what about compatibility issues? I fear that some of my applications (I've 109 games) will have problems...

I think if you pre-order an iPhone now you won't get it until the 14th of July, but I believe if you were part of the first batch of pre-orders then you will still get the phone on time
