I agree, the phone with a case is it's probably the best device out there, and I also get the same crap from people I know, ESPECIALLY with my friends who have the EVO, God it gets old... BUT that is one thing they have over us is their phone works properly out of the box, where the iphone does not. I'm wondering what apple is going to do once the free case offer expires, start packaging them with a bumper?... It's the only thing I can think of aside from some miracle fix....
Christ, I haven't seen anyone say it's not a design flaw. Every person I've heard of has said that it IS a design flaw, but it isn't affecting EVERYONE. All we're saying is that the media (and you) are completely blowing this out of porportion. My dad hasn't had this problem. It DOES affect the signal when the iphone is held in the death grip, but it DOES NOT drop the calls or affect the call quality. Go figure. You really to calm down. Calling everyone who doesn't completely agree with you a liar really hurts your credibility.
Yeah, maybe. I suppose the network/carrier could also affect the signal. I've heard bad things about AT&T. We're lucky that we have a range of networks to choose from in the UK. I'm using an O2 PAYG sim and even though I live in a slight valley, I still have full signal (5 bars) with the case. If I take the case off and hold it, I usually drop 1 bar, sometimes 2, but even at 4 or 3 bars, making calls is fine.
Do me a favor, borrow your dad's phone, and do a speed test for one min, and tell me what happens, and video proof would be better as my credibility FAR outweighs yours (I hope you know I'm JK on that one).... And yes people saying theirs doesn't do it and I got a bad kit is basically saying that there is no problem/flaw whatever you call it... I don't think anyone is blowing anything out of proportion when I have personally witnessed it with 8 phones to the point of no service, some take a little longer then others to do it, but max time was 3 min to no service... that's a HUGE problem, and I don't think anyone would be blowing anything out of proportion by saying that it is?! I feel like I'm in the twilight zone here sometimes, and then I remember this is an iphone forum, but you guys have to remember I've always been a huge idevice fan and maybe that's why i'm SO disappointed.... Please anyone post a video showing you do a speedtest or phone call for one min and post the results, that's all I'm asking... Give me that and you'll give me peace...
I did, and I feel I responded properly. My point is, it does affect everyone if it doesn't then someone prove me wrong please... Just one phone that doesn't lose signal after holding it for 5 min. (the average call time). It can't be done, why? Because it's a real problem, not something a few people experienced and gizmodo and the news taking advantage of just a few phones. It's ALL of them. And your right it doesn't affect everyone, just the ones not using a case or holding it with their right hand.
Alright I think I used some bad wording. I meant to say that the death grip affects all iphones, but it didn't lead to dropped calls or poor call quality in many iphones. Key word here is many, not all. Haven't been following this problem all too extensively, but doesn't it affect left handed users, not right handed?
It has nothing to do with being right or left handed, just which hand you hold the phone, for instance me and my cousin and aunt are all right handed but tend to hold our cellphones with our left hand, leaving our dominate hand to be free. But I have tested 8 phones and all lost signal entirely so until someone can post a video of them holding it for a minute or two and still showing a carrier logo I won't be convinced other wise as I have personally seen it myself too many times for it to be just coincidence. So Hodapp disappears again when I ask him for proof. Just like the last 3 times I asked him.
I remember reading an engadget article and when they got their iPhone 4 to review it, they couldn't get the signal to go down - it was fine.
I remember reading a Newsweek article where they tested 500 iPhones and every single one lost signal.... But without a link I guess I could make anything up huh? Sorry LBG, I need SOLID proof at this point.
AWESOME! You are the man LBG, Thank you!!! I only watched first one, as youtube has had a buffering issue for me lately and it's quite painful to watch anything lately. But that is proof enough for me! Once again you won't hear a peep from me on this issue again! So, there are working ones? Or is it due to body chemistry? I still think Hodapp is an alien and his skin is non-conducive, but either way I am satisfied, thanks...
Or maybe they took a picture and kept it there throughout the demonstration? It stays five bars throughout the first video. I think. I only watched the first one... Watched another one and the bars change. My theory goes byebye
The second video is probably the best. She keeps on touching the screen to brighten the screen (after it automatically dims) which is proof that she isn't using a photo. No problem, glad you are finally satisfied. And yeah, perhaps it is something to do with skin. I bet hodapp is actually a cyborg with synthetic non-conductive skin
I work at a hospital as an RT. We used to have that rule about turning off your cell phones a long time ago, that's before we got updated equiptment. People use cell phones all over the hospital, and we have wifi everywhere...we don't live in the stone age anymore
1 he said not all phones 2 it's Hodapp so if your trying to convince him his device is more susceptible to dropping bars he will never admit it. (even though Steve Jobs himself said it) 3 I'm using a "round two" iPhone 4 (meaning it was shipped & purchased with 1.0.4 installed & as I type this you don't need to even death grip it. It will drop bars significantly faster than the 3G S no matter which hand it's in. It's even cut from 3G to Edge & then back to 3G just because of the way I've was holding it. 4 I've never dropped a call despite 3^ no matter which hand I was using. So yes it does drop bars & it does it fairly fast compared to previouse iPhone designs & many other cell phones, but I haven't had it become a hinderence in everyday use.
