It's not Apple's fault, moron - AT&T's system couldn't keep up with the orders and crashed. The problem isn't Apple's site, the issue is not being able to access AT&T account info
Well it's official, AT&T is sold out of launch day iPhone 4's! Good thing I got my order in at 6:00am about an hour after the site opened. I would guess that they had at least 500k? Maybe less, maybe more?... But seriously everyone saying AT&T blows because of what happened today is crazy! I don't think there's a server in the world that could process all those orders at once, especially with users hitting refresh over and over... It's like one ginormous DDOS attack... well, kinda..
2nd of July isn't really that bad if you think about it. Only an extra week. It could have been an extra month - now that would feel bad.
Agreed. The demand for the iPhone 4 is supposedly 10x of the 3GS was because many people are qualified for the upgrade this time. Last year I was able to easily walk into the Apple store in the afternoon and buy one but I don't think most people who don't preorder will get one at a launch day (or even in June) this year. Apple will definitely set aside a bunch of units for walk ins but prepared to wait in an extremely long line if you didn't preorder!
I was 100k units off on my prediction yesterday! Official word is Apple and AT&T had 600,000 units and they sold all of them out! I guessed 500k, that's a lot of phones, the only other system that wouldn't get crashed from crazy volumes would be eBay or ticketmaster? I could see them getting some crazy days. But I think because the upgrade and activations are tied directly into AT&T's billing system I could see how they had so many issues. Anyways I'm pretty sure I'm good as I got a confirmation email around 7:00 am (hours before the sites crashed) with order number and everything. I can even track it, it's currently "processing"... The 24th can't come soon enough!

Does anyone know if they will have the white iPhone 4 in store on the 24th? My pre-order got royally messed up, so now I've got nothing coming to me, but maybe it's just as well. I wanted to see the two colors before deciding. In any case I am going to try to get one in-store on the 24th.
I did the preorder last week and after sitting in the store for a few hours (got two phone, one for me and one for my wife) waiting for Apples systems to process the orders (went through AT&Ts systems in under 5 minutes then everything came to a grinding halt when the order was placed with Apple both times). Just got the shipped email. Should have it soon
What is the best way to get it the soonest? I was not able to preorder and I am on a trip till June 30th. I can prob go to a store on the 24th but definitely not camp out. I also don't want to be wait till the 14th with the preorder thru apple. Is there any way to get it easily without a camp out or waiting till the 14th for apple to ship. Please help! Thanks
Don't go to any non apple retail store. Apple has only giving them limited quantities and will have a bunch for walk ins in all their stores. Just make sure you show up before the store opens Hopefully it won't be a too much of a pain because of where I live but I would probably wouldn't even bother if I lived in New York City or The Bay area
If you decide to go on June 24th check with the store you are going to. The AT&T store by us told us they are opening at 7am but only are filling pre-orders for the first hour or so. The Apple store near us told a friend that they may not sell to anyone who hasn't pre-ordered until 5pm like they have done in the past. Call where you might head to and find out how they are going to sell the phones that day.

if i walk into a store thursday to buy a iphone4, what would I need to bring? ...besides $200 + tax? driver license? AT&T mywireless account?
You won't be able to buy one. They accidentally left the preorder site open for too long, and now they have more orders than they can ship. You'll have to wait for like 2 months.
AT&T retail iPhone 4 delay Just giving everyone a heads up, walk-in purchases that were due for Thursday have been postponed at AT&T stores until the 29th. Only if you have a pre-order will you be able to pick it up on Thursday.
If you walk in with like $1000 you might be able to convince someone to give up their phone for you - If you just want to get it like everyone else, pre-orders are still shipping out July 14 - due to arrive around July 20 - 21 - so you might be able to get them around this time - until then all the phones should go to pre-orders....
