To be fair the best people to say that to are the ones who don't yet own Apple products. I think these guys have a right to be disappointed, they feel like they rug has been pulled from beneath them, but at the same time... this stuff happens. There's no point moaning about it, might as just take the shit in the face and move on.
Is 4.0 available for the 1st Gen Touch? I can't find any info about this* so does anyone know? A simple yes or no would be fine. Thanks! *because I am too lazy to read all 13 pages of this topic
I understand the disappointment. I'm just saying that when you buy a device, you buy it for what it can do at that time. Technology moves fast, just ask the 4 DS's or 3 PSP's I've bought in the last 5 years. My DS phat isn't bright enough, my DS Lite doesn't have DSiware, my DSi doesn't play GBA games, my PSPgo doesn't play my UMD's. There's always gains and losses in the advancement of technology. Apple's products and the App Store have evolved a lot in just the last 2-3 years. The new devices are being designed with greater hardware demands in mind, because now they realize that's what people want/need. Plus, buying the first generation of a device is always risky. They look to see how they're customers are using them, then adjust them apporopriately in newer versions. I think you have a right to be disappointed, but not a right to claim that Apple is screwing you over in any way.
Multitasking and themes are a battery drainer on my 2nd generation iPod touch. I had to remove winterboard, and I only use the proswitcher sparingly. I can see why Apple wouldn't add these features. But I can also see why people would complain. With other smartphones and PCs, you can upgrade the software for years without feeling pressure to upgrade the hardware. I have a 4 year old desktop that still works perfectly fine for my work. I added some extra ram, switched out the video card, cleaned it with some compressed air, and it's still good to go. My serious suggestion for those who don't like how Apple operates would be to just get a small netbook. They aren't as sexy or as compact as iPhones or iPods, but they'll fulfil your multitasking needs until you feel like getting a new iDevice.
But what about people like me (and millions of others) who didn't know much about the different specs at the time who bought a "3rd gen" ipod touch 8gb in 2010 only to find it isn't 3rd gen but 2nd gen hardware inside even though it is sold and named 3rd gen. The 8gb touch that is on sale now is the main touch model sold due to its lower price, this is the model that most people buy, its still on sale now yet it won't have FULL os4 support? They really shouldn't be allowed to call it 3rd gen when it is nothing like a 3rd gen device in terms of cpu, gpu, ram etc. This is where I bought mine a few months ago, it is clearly sold as a 3rd generation ipod touch, look: Apple iPod Touch 8GB 3rd Generation http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9007815/Trail/searchtext%3EITOUCH.htm
Wholeheartedly agree. The fact is that Apple has been "getting away" with peddling that sort of mislabeled stuff for a bit now, and it really has to stop and I try to "educate" people to the fact that what they want to buy might not be what they think it is. Cases in point: 8GB "3rd gen" iPod touch and baseline 15" Macbook "Pro", which is really just a regular Macbook with an aluminum shell when you get down to it and is NOT really a true Pro model
Yeah I'll agree with that. Apple don't tell the consumer these things before they buy. It's not our job to investigate the workings of the entire company before we make our purchase. Saying "Apple have always done that" is no excuse, it's misleading and annoys people. Dishonest business practise.
it is dishonest and it isn't - part of the job of the consumer is to research the product before hand. I have learned the lesson to be wary of entry-level electronics and not just through Apple. You should always take the time to research any purchase or investment. I agree companies should mark their entry level products as such, an Ipod Touch Lite moniker probably would have helped evaporate some of the cynicism being harboured at the moment. However that doesn't mean you should just step out and spend 200-300 dollars on a product you are relatively uneducated on.
This is BS because i have had my 2nd gen ipod touch jailbroken for a while now and i run multitasking, folders, and backrounds all at once and i rarley eve have lag or slow downs and if i ever do ill restart it and im set for a long time.
I own an ipod touch 2g. I am thinking of upgrading to a 4th generation when it comes out later this year
Just realized why people were complaining about "no flash". This whole time you guys were talking about the flash player. I was thinking about cameras. :[
I can live without flash if HTML5 becomes popular. It seems kind of stupid that it was never implemented though.
My iPod touch won't support multitasking, homescreen background is laggy and makes the device unstable, folders disappear after connecting to iTunes... Where is the point of updating at all?
Maybe, but I don't think it will be fixed that much. Maybe I am mistaked about stability of backgrounds and folders but lack of multitasking... well, that's a disattraction. Lack of mutlitasking didn't hurt me at all when there was no announcement about it at all. But when I will have in mind, that some users have this feature and I don't - it may be sad.
