So apparently only the 3GS getting the multitasking in the 4.0 upgrade due to "lack of processing power" of the older models. That is complete BS. Jailbroken phones have been doing multitasking for years now.

I'm happy I have a 3GS, but I'm sick of this crap from Apple. This press conference just sold us a bunch of features Android has been doing for a while now, and of course only the newest model gets the full upgrade. Apple continues to give its customers the finger. Anyone with a 1st gen or 3G has no reason not to have a jailbroken phone at this point.

What about the iPod touch 2nd Gen? My iPod is jailbroken and there is a "multitasking-app" on the cydia store called ProSwitcher and it is free.

  3. 3GS and 3rd gen Touch have more horsepower to run multitasking. There's a good chance multitasking would run like crap on older devices, so Apple's restricting it to the devices that have the muscle to handle it. Sucks to be a 1st or 2nd gen user, but you have to expect this sort of thing with modern technology: Newer, more powerful devices get the newer features that require that extra power. I'm not really seeing a problem here.

it's really not surprising. When I was jailbroken using proswitcher or backgrounder there was always noticeable lag and slowdown. I was actually wondering how it might work on 2g and under devices until I saw that it would only be 3g and above

If you have the 8GB 3rd Gen model it will not multi-task however.

And the 1st gen iPod touch doesn't support OS 4.0, which is complete BS. No homescreen backgrounds or folders for us? They are leaving us behind so we can upgrade to the new devices.

That's the American, or in this case, Apple way.

Eh, multitasking isn't enough of a reason for me to get a 3rd Generation iPod Touch 16GB+ when I got my 8GB 2nd Gen. just in August.

I'll get a 4th Gen iPod Touch when the time comes, or maybe a 5th Gen in the upcoming years...not sure.

Why is that complete BS? The first gen is not powerful enough anyway. Either you upgrade or be happy with what you got. I can agree that Apple might move forward and throw old models in the dumpster to quickly at times, but isent this what everyone wants? New shit to droll over each year? Then it is not strange if the new software wont run smoothly on the old hardware.

But i could agree that they should atleast make it work on all models, so you could run newer apps nomather what device you have. Just take away the heavy features.

I expect it'll be released in june/july like the other os upgrades. in which case a 4g iPT should be just a couple months after in september. can wait

  20. It'll likely roll out the same time the 4th gen iPhone does, in the usual Apple fashion.
