Anyone who has a iPhone 3GS are eligible for the 199/299 for the iPhone who's due date was somewhere in February 2011?

I think so, as long as you sign a new two year contract on top of the remaining time you have now. You also have to pay a $18 fee

I believe that Steve Jobs mentioned a 6 month window on the keynote. If I understand that correctly, I think it means that anyone who's contract expires before the end of 2010 is eligible for the lowest price. So I guess you'll have to wait for a couple of months.

They may not be updating the eligibility information till the phone becomes available for pre-purchase on the 15th.

O well guess I'll have to pay the early upgrade for 499+75+18 for the new iphone :( And I was a customer with AT&T since 2001 too when they were still Cingular. Guess they care more about money than customer loyalty nowadays so I better start praying huh?

Pre-purchase? How would one who's switching from Verizon go about pre-ordering it?

You can buy it from the Apple website -- they start taking orders on the 15th.

just preorder it from Apple's Website and when you get it, iTunes will prompt you to get AT&T on it and follow the steps there but be sure to have your contract with Verizon over with ;)

I read an article today that was talking about Apple and ATT and possible monopolistic practices. The iPhone was specifically mentioned as there was talk that people whose contract expire as far away as 18 months from now may be eligible for the upgrade... In large part this would do away with the unlimited data plans, as you will have to sign up for a new data plan along with the upgrade - cancel the old contract - start a new contract...

Additionally, the reason the article talked about illegalities is that apparently this early upgrade ONLY applies to the iPhone - not any other company - and you would only be eligible to get another iPhone as an upgrade...

Anyways, just an article, and it may all just be rumor. I guess we will see on June 15... I will have to think about giving up my unlimited data plan though even if I am eligible..

You don't have to give it up. You could still keep your unlimited when you upgrade you know? And a question to everyone with a 3GS, did AT&T just told us to screw yourself because some of the early adopters contract expires in Feb. 2011 or Jan. 2011?

I don't think this is going to be true. I think that when you "upgrade" you will have to sign a new contract - which means tearing up the old one... When ATT mentioned that people who have a contract won't have to give it up - they are talking about just extending the current contract. Any modifications ie upgrading to a new or different phone would force a new contract, with a new data plan.... That is how I understand it anyway...

Apple site, gotchya. I think I'll wait till midnight so I can pre-order soon as its the 15th :D

My contract with Verizon isn't up till around August, but my mom was telling me about how we could just change something in my plan so we're only paying $10/month, so I can do that this month, get the iPhone, then pay just the $30 or so till my contract expires.

I dialed that *639# and it texted back:

As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and waive the $18 upgrade fee.

So does this mean I will pay a higher price for the 4g? Or the lower price?

Just for interest sake - I checked it out. I got my iphone last year in June with a 2 year contract - the text message I got said that ATT was pleased that I could upgrade for an $18 upgrade fee....

I guess I will be getting a new iPhone and having my old one be a back up... I guess we will be hearing more about contracts on / about June 15...
