today was a day my iphone almost died.
he felt down straight to the toilet. he was in the water for 2 seconds. and of course he didn't work after i took it out.

but thanks to my hair dryer... he WORKS! nothing happened!

    whoa, i was lucky ;)

just wanted to share my story with you. :)

Check inside the headphone jack to see if the litmus paper turned blue. If not, you shouldn't have warranty problems in the future. If so, better hope that TA can help you troubleshoot.

It's a small white piece of paper at the bottom of the headphone jack. Apple uses it to see if there was water damage. That's good though.

Yup. The litmus tests pH in different materials. It wil turn blue if it's basic, which water is around neutral so it should be blueish.

You're lucky, although, for future reference, putting it in rice with a slow fan is much better than blowdrying it. I'm not exactly sure why, but people have had trouble after blwodrying their electronics, but then they're fine if they put them in rice. Worked for my Chocolate 3!

Rice is extremely absorbent, and soaks up any water on your device.

Umm. If you don't have anything productive to say. Don't say anything. This was potentially serious. But its not, so carry on

I would have never thought to do that. I'm going to remember this for future reference. :)

Interesting. I didn't know you could see the liquid strip--but I peeked into my 3G's headphone jack with a flashlight and sure enough, I think I see it. Makes me worry about an accidental raindrop hitting at the right angle! I do use the iPhone for a few seconds in light rain sometimes, trying to end a call or whatever.

Yes, always. Amounts too small to see. Thus, my advice to anyone else in this situation:

    1. Use the rice-and-fan method to absorb the fecally-tainted water.

    2. But DO NOT eat the rice afterwards. It had a very "off" taste that even soy sauce did not conceal.

    3. I cannot overstate this: DO NOT eat the rice. Just let it go. Get some other rice for eating.

    4. It's probably too obvious to mention, but important for safety: do not eat the fan either.
