Got some a few new hands-on videos up, as well as a hands-on with the OS. More to come like usual...

I get more excited for this every time I see it.

This for all the haters out there! Ive been a hardcore gamer my whole life since good old nes days. When a new system came out i was first inline to pik it up. The iPhone i belive is the best portable game system ever made... Why? Because i have played in just the last year FPS that put any FPS on DS n PSP to shame! NOVA was an amazing single player experence n online is great! Metroid on DS was great but lacked compared to NOVA in online n the single player wasnt wat i expected n the control killed my thumbs on the DS. PSP just sucks there is nuttin on it that come close to iPhones NOVA n Modern Combat. Now for consoles n the iPad i see the iPad as a console in my hands! Great graphics n gona have better games than console games in no time. Gears of war as an example took not even 4 hours to complete! NOVA a iPhone game was longer than it! All console games have short single player n the same kind of online multiplayer that Halo 3 has! So i see it that now that i can pull out my iphone n play Anrufen a MMO on da iphone!! N close that n play a cool FPS online n have a fun time doin it is the way it should b. Also people complaining that the iPad OS is crap think about it for a second... The appstore has more apps on it that will fill the position of the little things u need on ur laptop. So apple have done the right thing when it comes to the OS! Now when i wana go play a game at my mates ill take my iPad n play a game n not have to sit there n sync my control for 10 minutes n then cant play coz u have to set up a lan game thats if it even excepts lan anymore!

iPad will b great n will have some fantastic games n even better apps that my laptop wont b able to keep up with.
Thats just my thoughts. :) n i got alot more to say but ill save that for now.

I'm afraid it was. Actually I was with you up until the point where you said the iPad games were going to be superior to console games... we've had a few devs around here making guesses on what the market would be like, and so far it doesn't seem all that different from the games we get on iPhone. There are some great games, but the difference between those and HD console gaming is still pretty big.

The article has many flaws, which makes me think they dont' know what they are talking about.

They say the Cortex A9 powers the Tegra and Snapdragon. This is wrong. The Tegra and Snapdragon use the Cortex A8 same as the iPhone 3GS.

The GPU is probably not the ARM GPU, it's probably a PowerVR chip. The ARM GPU cited is said to be much LESS powerful than the PowerVR chip using in the iPhone 3GS. What are the chances that Apple downgraded the graphics capabilities on the iPad? Yeah, not likely.

Oh ok i c wat ur saying. N dont get me wrong my PS3 n Xbox besides gathering dust since i got my iphone have got some great titles but they r the same thing over n over! Mass effect n now part 2 r buggy as hell but the still will rate it highly which i dont understand anymore! Halo is great coz of its story telling but gameplay? Copy n paste rooms n the same enimies for 3 games! Sucks! But Nintendo n metroid on the wii n on da gamecube were unreal!
I dont get alot of time to play consoles anymore so it easier for me to use my iphone. Wat im trying to say is the iphone has better games than all the systems due to its pick up n play style or even to b able to sit down n have a long gaming session online or offline. No portable console has ever done that n i think the iPad will take it to the next level.

Well now you are using your obviously busy lifestyle as the standard lifestyle games should be developed for. Many people love having their gaming systems as a stationary unit simply for relaxing at home and enjoy expansive time consuming games more than pick up and play games. Look, the point is just that it doesn't have the hardware to be an amazing game system that can legitimately compete with the standard complexity of well established gaming systems. At the same time, it is not portable enough to be a good portable system. This, of corse, is not to mention how strange you would look playing games on a giant flat screen in public. The reason the iPhone and iPod Touch are such great portable gaming systems is because they are both super portable and have the hardware to compete with the established portable market. Combine that with the fact that they do 1000 other things in a device smaller than the other standard handhelds and the fact that people who don't buy them for the games will occasionally buy a game, and it is easy to see why these devices have become so good for portable videogaming. My previous point you could also use to support your argument for the iPad, but the problem is that it would probably only be used at home where many people at least have one machine capable of playing videogames and that it doesn't double as a luxury so common that many people now feel that said luxury is a necessity (luxury = phone or portable mp3 player or both).

The only legs it has been given to stand on are interactive internet (with no flash), app store (which already exists with many problems such as app pricing), and it's wow factor. Many seem to agree, this device is a watered down computer with touch capabilities for the non-tech-savvy consumer who only needs to browse the basic internet, type the occasional document, check email, and maybe play a game on occasion. It is either for someone like this, or a very tech-savvy person who can afford a third type of device to always have a watered down computer at hand that replaces neither his or her computer nor his or her iPhone or iPod because it doesn't surpass or even meet the best qualities of either (not as insanely portable as the iPhone or iPod and not nearly as powerful, customizable, and altogether useful as a computer).

So what does this mean in terms of it's gaming? Don't expect anything much better than what is already on the app store because it wasn't designed to be much better.

Now. I have 2 ps3's, 360, Wii, Macbook and a laptop(and of course my fantastic iPhone). i play/use them all. What im trying to say is people look at specs n stuff like that over the idea's that r gonna come from this tablet/console/laptop/pc or watever its considered. Its got touch screen which seems to b wat alot of people r catching onto. also u can plug in a keyboard n im guessing a mouse probly. so there r other options out there if developers r allowed to use em. Apple have tested the waters so to say with the whole touch screen devices n now they can bring out the iPad which can take it to the next level with a massive screen n more power for better games with the same touch abilities.

N i dont agree with the whole lack of flash n small drives but shit happens n there is always around things like that.

So you are relying on the fact that it has multitouch for it to produce good unique games? The iphone already does this and I am not sure how much more powerful these games will be considering the current pricing issue with the app store. People refuse to pay premium prices, so it does not play premium games.

And there is no way that apple is allowing a mouse to go through this thing. They are advertising this saying that it is better than using a mouse, so why would they put the option to use a mouse. Also, with the UI being designed for touch interface, it just doesn't make sense. It would be great for fps though....

Which brings up another point: This thing is even harder to control than an iphone when it comes to games which don't involve directly touching what you want to move (ie games with virtual buttons, sticks, d-pads, etc.)

I couldn't agree more. I stand by my post in another thread IMO the IPad is rated (EF) for an epic failure.
#1 a multimedia device that doesn't do widescreen vidz.
#2. No usb port with out a dongle, IE another $50-$60 dollars at best.
I have a Desktop, I have a laptop, I have an Iphone 3g & even an Ipod touch. I just don't see how this fits into my life or for that matter the average consumer. If anything I think they marketed this whole thing backwards. They first should have came out with the Ipad & then scaled down to the Iphone/touch. The whole reason the Iphone makes sence is its essentially a laptop that fits in your pocket. Why do I need a bigger version that may or may not fit into my briefcase. Unless you what to cry out to the world and say look at me and my shiney new toy, I say pass on this one at least untill Gen2 if and when they tweak it up a bit.

It does widescreen. Double-tap on the video to change between full and wide.

Actually, most of the tech press came out pretty wow'd after the hands-on session. Its apparently a device you need to actually hold in your hand to "get".
