Hey, the iPad with WiFi + 3G is out now! It's a bit pricey, with the 16GB one costing $629. Any thoughts to share?

    Australia, mate!
Seriously, though. Who would want to use an iPad outside of their home?

I do all the time. Bring it to work...replaces my laptop, much easier to carry around, and can do work on it...and much better calendar to keep my appointments and such. Gone on 2 plane flights and brought it each time for movies and tv shows. I've taken the iPad many times outside the home and it looks like a small notebook pad with the case I have...never know what you're going to do with something until you have it I guess...wish I had the 3G version now though :(

I also do all the time, but in 90% of those cases I have acess to wi-fi, hence, why would I spend an extra arm to get 3G (Plus monthly fees)

Well they do have an option of just paying $14.99 per 250gigs, so you don't have to pay monthly fees, just whenever you run out. Would have done that option. Have no problems paying $830 for the 64gig wifi 3G version, but I couldn't wait another month to get the iPad. Oh well, I'll get another iPad with 3g when the 3rd generation rolls out...there's just been a few times already I thought to myself, damn, wish I had 3G on this

Got mine today and it is awesome! :)
I love the bigger screen, and a lot of the games don't look too bad at 2x pixel, except for the text-based apps.

Haven't tried out the 3G yet, but I'll sign up for a month's worth of data to make sure it's working alright. Stood in line for over 2 hours to make sure I got one!

Does this only get 3G or edge also? Because as many know, 3G not very consistent.

It's like asking if the iPhone 3G also gets edge.

Yes you get access to AT&T's network.....all of it.

I've noticed my iPad is noticeably faster than the 3GS in terms of loading things (the App Store, games that require Internet connection, etc.)

Sorry, I wasn't under the impression that you would still get the same coverage. To me, it doesn't seem far fetched at all to have Edge and 3G to be separate entities which you can also sell separately. That certainly is nice though, even with edge loading at a snail's pace.

Well, obviously it's faster than the iPhone 3GS, it has a faster processor.

uneducated, if not wrong statement. Internet is limited by your service provider and your router. The average internet speeds in north america can barely surpass the maximum speed of the 802.11b wireless standard.

I did some experimenting last night and here is what I noted with the 3G connection while at full signal strength:

    3G:
    Download: 2300 kbpm
    Upload: 200 kbpm

    Wi-Fi (AT&T Elite supposedly up to 6M/min):
    Download: 4900 kbpm
    Upload: 650 kbpm

So about half the speed of my wi-fi but at least more reliable when on the other side of my house some 50'+ from my wireless router.

It boots up quicker and seems to sync quicker as well...but then again my iPod Touch 3G is completely overloaded with nonsense (some 19 pages of games) so it may be the primary cause of the slowdown.
