Hi, As a highschool student saving up for a MacBook pro, should I consider an iPad? I have an iPod touch but have never really owned a computer. I know it can be a preference thing but what would you do in my situation? Keep in mind the prices from student's perspective. Thanks!
from price, an ipad + some accesories will do everything BASICALLY you need, and more a MB, MBp, will be 3x the price of an ipad, and will probaby do 2x the amount of stuff..... im going with an ipad because i have a desktop, and thats all i need!
oh yeah, keep in mind your on a gaming forum, most people here hate the ipad, but love Macs, its a little bias
let me speak slower... Toucharcade=iphone gaming forum iphone gamers=/=like ipad therefore Toucharcade=bunch of ipad haters (mostly) so we are biased
Thanks for the replies I'm gonna wait for more detailed reviews of the iPad, and see what kind of productivity apps come out for it. Right now I am leaning towards the MacBook though...
definitely a macbook, I wouldn't even consider an iPad, its functionality doesn't come anywhere close
Get a Macbook pro! They are absolutely amazing! Since your still in HS and need a computer won't you need to write essays and print homework etc... This is only the 1st gen iPad, just look at the 1st gen iPhone. 1 1/2 months after release it had a $200 price drop!! Ask your parents if they will finance your macbook pro on Amazon, 6 months no interest. Got mine last month and I've fallen in love. lol You can always get an iPad but having a computer is a must!
Thanks, I agree 100%! You may have just completely convinced me Could you elaborate on the financing Amazon thing?
I'm starting to get really interested in the iPad... But I'll wait a year. I would go with a Macbook Pro. Had it for at least a year now and it works awesome! And it is so much easier to work with than an HP- Much better than my old HP laptop. I hate HP, they break down easily IMO.
Defintely a MacBook. There is no I/O with the iPad. How are you going to print your assignments? How are you going to share information with others ala thumbdrive? What do you do for backup if you need it. What do you do when storage space runs out - there is no capacity for any external drives. I'm getting an ipad but I think it will fit much more for entertainment (mostly) with some ability at productivity, vs a MacBook which is much more geared towards productivity with a lot of entertainment capability.
I know... at first I wasn't so happy with it, because I was expecting it to be more like a computer, running modified OS X instead of modified iPhone software. After seeing iWork, the peripherals, and the potential for powerful apps I got very interested. But... why have that when you can have that and so much more, right
