Yeah, it's dual core CPU and quad core gpu. But substantially better performance than the a5x. I think we can be certain an iPad 5 won't come next march. It's a shifting of the update structure and timescale similar to what they did with the iPhone when the 4s was launched.
Will definitely be purchasing a Mini. Probably for Christmas though. I'll probably use it more for school/work then gaming. I'll probably grab some iPad exclusives and download my icloud/universal apps. Looking forward to it!
Ill get an ipad 4 and keep my ipad 2 as well, the performance is still top notch so it will be one half of my dreamed 128 gb iDevice.
What, ipad 4 won't come in a 128 gb config? wow, I would have figured it would have... that actually is a good reason to wait for the ipad 5.
I have a question concerning apple care plus, usually if your ipad breaks, they give you a refurbed one. If six months down the line, your new ipad breaks, will they give you an equivalent ipad 4? Cause I really doubt they will make any more new ipads, so I would figure they would have to give you an ipad 4 right, cause they would run out of refurbed ipad 3's very fast. Right? Anyone got a newer version of ipad or iphone like this?
Yeah the increase in storage space is long over due imo. At least theres virtually no game that cant run fine on an iPad 2 so I shall store a lot of games on it, leaving only the very best games and work apps on the new new ipad haha.
Storage space is my biggest issue with all mobile tech at the moment I basicly want Micro Sd cards in everything, it's amazing that still nobody is actually putting in anything higher than 64gb to me. Right now i'm set to buy a nexus 7 at 32gb when they appear which storagewise I consider barely useable but I've been reading the reviews of the Surface RT today and the fact it has a Micro SD is starting to tempt me in that direction.
I think you're going to have to stop calling the 3rd gen iPad the "new" iPad, particularly when also discussing the 4th gen, because I found this post incredibly confusing
Yeah, I am confused to, but is the newest ipad officially called the ipad 4? And officially the ipad 3 is called the new ipad. I really wish apple would just label these 2,3,4. Because I got no idea what to call my new ipad anymore, sure the hell not going to type ipad, 3rd generation though. Don't mind using ipad 3, but now it's actually the kind of old new ipad I guess. Or maybe the original new ipad.
There is no more new iPad (iPad 3 a5x). Discontinued The 4th generation iPad (a6x) is now known as iPad (along the lines of MacBook Pro retina). And then iPad 2 (16gb). And iPad mini. That's the official line up now.
Yep, this update was done to get the iPad's release in sync with the holiday buying season, and also put their competitors on their heels. It's a bit unfortunate that iPad3 purchasers only got 6 months with the newest device, but it's something that had to happen for Apple to make this move. The other option was to not release an iPad in between spring of 2011 and now, and there's no way they were going to go 18 months without putting an updated iPad on the market. I'm actually really happy they did this, since I'm still using a 1st gen iPad at the moment. I've been planning on getting the 4th gen iPad since the 3rd gen was released, so this just gets me my upgrade quicker.
Definitely interested in an iPad Mini but I'm going to be one of those guys and say I'll wait until they get retina display next year. After using a Nexus 7, I'm convinced that the smaller form factor is more ideal.
it's still better than any Android tablet, which pretty much obsolete in a week after release.... doh
I had exactly the same plan. Nearly bought 3rd gen in June, then figured it out not to and wait for the iPad 4. Not too concerned about iPad mini but the iPad retina definitely is what I was looking for. Plus the refresh is more or less what an iPad 4 launched next march would have been anyway so just works out better for those that skipped the 3rd gen. Bad for 3rd gen people though but an unfortunate side effect of a necessary move.
I've been talking to my dad, and he had been hearing rumors about them changing it to 6 month release cycles. Fall would be the iPhone / iPad x then spring would be iPhone / iPad xS.
