i need your help guys) i'm thinking of getting Ipad Mini 8 GB, since it's the most affordable option. But my last ICloud save comes from IPad2 16GB version, on which i had like 6GB free, with everything installed. So my question is - will i be able to restore my IPad 2 save on the new Mini (i'm talking about bookmarks, photos, game saves for the games i wish to install), will the ICloud restore process start at all? Thank you

I would say you should wait and at least get 16gb. There might not even be an 8 gb model.

Don't assume anything until it is announced.

    Look out your window.
I doubt there will be an 8gb. Could be wrong though.

I think iPad mini will come as low as 8gb.

My reason being, the iPad mini is pretty much being released for the sole purpose to compete eith ebook readers like the kindle, and cheap droids.

They made a mini to compete with the price point, and also for use as an ebook reader and ebook readers often come in low memory.

Plus, I've seen a few websites doing articles on leaked information, some being product lists and price points..which have included 8gb minis with wifi only costing as low as &249 pounds..
They are trying to offer it as cheap as possible, and the way to do that is low memory and low manufacture costs.. Wouldn't be surprised if it has no camera.. Or just 1 camera.

Anyway, I doubt I'd play games on it much..especially if it's going to be a whole new resolution..that'll be really annoying.. I hate waiting for all my favorite games to update with support..

Imagine if the iPad mini can't play games, just like the iPod nano can't.. That'd sure cut costs.. They could sell it cheap as if that was the case though..and $250 pounds isn't that cheap, though Im sure it'll probably have an a4 chip or worse.

Think it'll be marketed as an ebook reader, and iPad "on the go".

If I got one, it'd be to use as an iPad on the go, using my original iPad at home for gaming and web browsing and what not, and taking my iPad mini with me every time I leave the house, it'll become a staple item for away from home, just like the iPhone is.. And it'll just contain my absolute favorite games, and will mainly just have apps and utilities, books, songs, and use for web browsing and taking notes and what not. So in that case, I'd probably get the 8gb.. Though if someone is going to use it as their only idevice I'd definitely get a higher memory storage..
Apple fans have iPods for their music, iPhones for their photos and apps, iPads for their games, so it's spread out evenly among them all..so you shouldn't need super high storage.just use it like when a band releases a "greatest hits" albums.. Just put your greatest hits (apps, games, etc) on the iPad mini.

3 days left. Looking forward to see if anything will be any surprises..I remember back in the good old days apple keynotes were actually exciting and sort of unpredictable.,things have changed since old stevo left us. *sniff*

Well, its spec will essentially be that of the iPad 2 and that the current iPad 2 will probably discontinue when it launches. (A5 chip)
So it essentially comes down to which screen size you'd prefer personally as you will be able to get iPad 2 remaining stock after the 7.85 launches.

The resolution will be the same as the iPad 2 so there won't be any fragmentation and all current iPad or universal will work on it. Some might need button repositioning but I doubt it will be many, if any at all.

But there is a possibility that it will use a retina screen. Not the iPad 3 version but the iPhone 4 one just cut to a different size at manufacture (they are all manufactured in slabs and then cut to size).
I think non retina like iPad 2 is more likely from a financial stand point but the marketing aspect of a new device without retina classification might not sit well even though the iPad 3 does need some advantage and the retina screen might be its major one.

I certainly would strongly advise against an 8gb one if such version is launched. You'll essentially have about 6gb for storage (after ios and flash drive variation) which would be useless.

In relation to backups, any iPad backup will work for any iPad but iPhone backup won't work for iPad.
If you're using an iPad backup to iPad mini, all the settings, bookmarks, etc will restore as normal. Some apps, music or photos will get through as well until you run out of space.

I, again, cannot more strongly emphasise not to get an 8gb version (I don't think it will be an option anyway after checking some of the purported stock sheets, lets not forget iPad 3 is probably getting lightning connector, possibly ips screen and so ipad 3.5 is possibly on that stock sheet).
The 8gb won't save you any money long term anyway because apps are getting larger (20% on average at last count) and you'll just have to replace it when you runout of space and it'd be tougher to sell on the lower memory.

Some great points Rip73 and Snozberry, noted.

    Thank you gentlemen;)

  11. Man, don't even consider getting the 8gb version. After a week you will fill it up and be regretting life, mark my words.

I have a 64 gb new ipad and I always wanted 128gb, but couldn't get one. And even then, i am regretting it everyday.

You lose a ton of space for just the ios then with photos music and vids, you could use up all of the space. Just ios is like 2gb, photos maybe 1/2 gb, music 2 gb, and remember ALOT of games are like 2 gb.

So you could end up with just 2 games on your ipad like Asphault 7 and nova 3.

Then you go No space for anything else.

You will live to regret it. I recommend getting 32 gb, but minimum don't get anything lower than 16 gb. You will live to regret it, I guarantee you that.

But you are lucky to get a mini ipad. I wish i could
Get one too but I already got a new ipad and got used to carrying a backpack or manpurse WHEREVER I go. And i love having a portable ipad. It really is one of the greatest things on earth to me.

Never bored now wherever I go. And the games are getting bigger and bigger. But beware they are getting bigger and bigger with many from 500 mb to 2gb.

    Have fun with it.

Things I expect from the ipad mini:

    -Price-
I expect the price to be 300-350$
The thing is 250 seems a little under-priced considering the new iPod touch is 300$.

Now, 400$ seem over-priced for something smaller thinner and still the same price as the older and bigger iPad 2.

While 300-350$. Seem right in the middle of the two prices, and would also be semi-affordable compared to the 400-500 base iPads.

    -tech-
Camera: 5mega pixels seems right, not to expensive (we want that) and already in ipad 3 and iPod touch 5g.

Processor: A5. It is cheaper, good enough for gaming, and should be able to not be massively out of date for a year or two.

Ram: 512 mb.If it ain't broke, FIX IT ANYWAY. Okay 512 mb is nothing to scoff at, ipad 2 and iPod touch 5g use it, and they play well. Still wish it would be higher ( could never go wrong with 612 mb)

Retina: NO we want cheap gaming tablet, not high end super high res graphics (okay, we want both.)

Memory: 16 gb, 32 gb, 64 gb. 8gb is just to small nowadays.

    -Design-
    Colors: black and white.
While I like the new itouch colors, they just don't put out a serious vibe.

Shape: I expect smaller bezels, and really thin. (not iPod touh 5g, but still thin)

If I forgot anything feel free to pm me so I can edit. :)

Well, this imaginary "Retina" term will byte Apple in the ass this coming Tuesday. It basically means higher ppi pixel density, and since Mini will most likely use IPad 2 resolution, bringin it down from 9.7 to 7.8 inches while keeping 1024 x 768, will automatically bring that ppi way up, which makes it pretty much a "Retina". But ppl expect 1920 x 1080 res and will go nuts. Everyone will scream - where is my retina screen?! But it's right there!

I've had an 8gb for 2 years and I know it's way too little. Now my phone is broken and instead of the hoped iPhone 4S, I'll get an android and an iPad 2/3. Android so I can host wifi for iPad :p anyway, I'll most likely be getting a 16gb so I'll be really happy even for that extra 8 gb :p But you're right that you need 32gb minimum

Yeah 8gb is way too low for your main gaming device, but why would you use an iPad mini for your main gaming device if you have a proper iPad?
I know I would get the smallest an cheapest iPad mini because I wont use it as my main device. It'll just be my secondary device that fits in my bag so I can leave my bigger iPad at home.. It's supposed to be just a cheap little "extra" device for people who already have an iPad.. If your going to go and buy the biggest version it'll probably cost more than a "new iPad" so you may as well just get that instead.. I reckon the only people that'll need one with alot of memory are the people who don't have an iPod, iPhone, iPad and Mac already at home.. My iPad is my main device and I wish it was bigger too, but my iPhone has almost all its memory intact, so does my MacBook.. IRS only my iPod that's full of music, and my iPad that's full of games.. Plus it's fling to be a new resolution so it's going to take a while for games to get support, and who would want to play games with huge file sizes usually because of Brest graphics, on a tiny little device! I'll be getting the smallest as possible.l don't want to waste too much money on something that's exactly what I got, except smaller and made with cheaper materials and probably lack of features like camera and whatnot.

iPad is quite big. Something between iPad and an iPhone would be the perfect gaming device. Especially for FPS and racing games(tilt).

True. I'm hoping it'll have more ram than the iPod 5...Would be a cool upgrade from my ipod 4

  19. Wow, wish I had the money to have both a new ipad and ipad mini. I am jealous, you are right though, it would be great to get an ipad mini just for carrying around. While I love my new ipad, carrying around a backpack wherever I go isn't the best solution, but I can live with it.

If I had an ipad mini with my new ipad, I still would buy a large file size one so I could throw some games on there that I really didn't want on my new ipad that had big filesizes, and didn't really need retina graphics.

Also, I would dump onto it as many small disk size casual games I could on it, so it could fill in for my new ipad from time to time.

I really wonder, if I bought a ipad mini whether I would use it or not, but if I was unwilling to carry a backpack all the time, I would buy an ipad mini in an instant and carry around a really small man purse or something. Maybe they will start coming out with fanny packs that can carry an ipad mini.

Anyway, yeah, I am jealous would love to have an iphone 5, new ipad, and ipad mini. But for now, having my new ipad will have to do. I love it! Especially the retina graphics!

  20. That would be the vita haha, and heck no, I would much rather have a new ipad over that! :p
