After using an iPad 2 for several months, the prospect of a much smaller, and especially a lighter tablet sounds really nice. The weight of the iPad is a bit much for some people i know (old folks, people with muscle pain/arthritis, etc). And it's just kind of an awkwardly large size. I do wish the specs on the mini were a bit better though.
I think the mini is pretty appealing. I would like one at some point. My iPad 2 still seems fast, so I'm not too bothered by it sharing the same hardware (but with LTE). My only concern is will it make some of my board games too small/hard to read? Some feel cramped even on a full size iPad. I will definitely check them out at the Apple store once they are there to try (are they already)??
The wifi only will be in stock on nov 2nd in Apple stores at least. Authorised reseller's should also have stock available on that day but the numbers will vary from place to place.
You'll be able to pre order it on the apple website from 12:01am, Cupertino time, (applies across the states, so midnight Cupertino is 3am Boston), GMT is 8am. Page might go live a few minutes early. That's for wifi only of both iPad 4 and iPad mini. Cellular option is still a few weeks away.
And live without any iOS device a week or two until it arrives? You crazy? And I still haven't gotten rid of my current iPad, haven't even tried. Need to do that pronto. I'm just attached to it... You think supplies will run out like they did with the iPad 3 or will that problem be mostly limited to the mini?
I think the mini will have the problem with stocks. I don't really think the retina will have a massive boost in sales but after seeing some of the trade in prices in places and the resale value of it, it just might sell quicker than I think. It'll still sell out fast just not as manic as iPad 3 or mini. Lot of us iPad 2 people are trading up to retina screen. Still plenty of stock of it floating around. Mini will go fast though.
I know how much you like 3d games and all, I still think you should wait for the ipad 5, ipad is only slightly better than the new ipad. I really doubt the ipad will sell all that well either, so both the ipad and new ipad will both not have the full support it should from the developers. I doubt a developer will want to make a game that will run really great on the ipad and have it a clunker on the new ipad. But when the ipad 5 comes out, it'll be a much different story or so I think. But it will be a tough decision to make for ipad 2 users. Personally I would never buy anything that didn't have 128 gb, cause since we are hardcore gamers, we can't hold hardly any 2gb games, and really good 3d games may need like 4gb, so the 64 gb limit is a big consideration too. The ipad mini will sell well for it's weight, and I am kind of happy it is coming out with the a5 processor, cause then at least I know games will support the a5x, so my new ipad won't be extinct. When the ipad mini goes a6 or a7, then it will be time to go for an ipad 5 cause the bar will be set higher. With the new ipad and ipad mini having an a5 based chip and gpu, developers won't push the boundaries, plus there seems to be about a year lag time for developers to get used to a new system. Anyway, I really don't see much of a difference in asphault 7 or mc3 for the ipad over the new ipad. The software wasn't designed for the a6, so while there probably will be some differences, I don't see that it will be mind blowing like the ipad 5 might be.
A difference in overall memory capacity of the future iPad 5 won't lead to a performance increase, well, unless you're maxed out on space. Apples policy (and this is in the official developers SDK despite some clocking in over it) is a maximum app size of 2gb. That won't change anytime soon. The iPad 4 is more than just slightly better than the iPad 3 also. The a6x is a big performance jump, trust me on this one. Some said the iPhone only had a minor chip upgrade for the iphone 5 as well and that has turned out to be completely wrong. The upgrade is massive. It will exceed the iPhone 5 (which has surpassed just about everything else on the market already) in benchmarks. Tests that I've seen have already shown it pass it out in certain key areas. As the benchmarks get published, you'll see the big difference. The a6/a6x will definitely push gaming boundaries. Currently only loading difference will be noticeably better on existing games but those that are coming out in the next few months that intend to push the envelope already will be lag free and have stable frame rates on a6/a6x devices that a5/a5x devices wish they had. And that's before stuff gets optimised for them.
my advice to you is to stop trying to break your devices in two, and also stop wedging them at a 45 degree angle in a 90 degree corner, and then stepping on said device. anyway, my point is i am calling total bullshit on you seeing multiple 4th gen iPod touches and multiple iPads "bent in half" unless of course you live with the ####ing Hulk. also are you trying to tell me it is easier to bend a well-machined metal device in two, than a cheap android device made out of plastic?
I agree with you, but 64 gb is too small when you like 3d games. And yes, I know about the 2 gb rule now but it will change I think when ipad 5 comes out. And I realize the ipad will be faster than the new ipad but most games on the market won't need it. Anyway, if I had an ipad 2, I would wait for the ipad 5. There's already rumours of an ipad 4s coming out in march see the ipad 4 thread for my post about it. You'll still love an ipad either way. But i am already eager to see what the ipad 5 will be like and to see if the ipad mini 2 will have a retina screen. Edit: Rip, does Asphalt 7 play a whole lot better on the iphone 5 vs the iphone 4s?
Yes. Smaller loading times. Solid frame rate. No lag whatsoever. Stuff I didn't really notice or just accepted on the 4s originally but became very evident, by their absence on the iPhone 5. In ref to an iPad 4s, there won't be one in march. The iPad 5 will be roughly this time next year. Of that, you can absolutely have no doubt.
