I KNOW I saw and posted in an iPad mini thread a few months ago, just couldn't find it. Here's another one, since many of the patrons of the Modern Combat 4 thread seem to love discussing this product which may or may not appear.

So. What kind of posts ARE on topic?

-will the iPad Mini come out?
    -specs speculations
    -release date speculations
    -pricing speculations
-what gaming might be like on the thing
-if Apple is violating Job's legacy by blatantly going against his wishes
-how an iPad mini would affect the android tablet market
-anything else to do with the iPad Mini

What is NOT on topic or necessary:

-Illogical, insulting and pointless drawn-out flame wars by either side
    -name-calling or harsh profanity
-talking about MC4 or any other game in this thread
    -trolling

I'll have to make one point and then I'm out. Possibly.
Jobs did tell Cook to run the company in his own way and not to put himself in the position of doing what he thinks Jobs would do.
So I don't think it's violating Jobs legacy by launching an iPad mini as it doesn't blatantly go against his wishes if his wishes are that Cook runs the company in his own way.
I also don't think an iPad mini affects Jobs legacy in any shape or form anyway. Jobs had an opinion at the time, its not part of a legacy not to launch one. And opinion can change over time. Apple has u turned on many things in the past, including not making a larger screen for the iPhone.
To go by your reasoning, we would also have to say that the iPhone 5 is blatantly against Jobs legacy.
The focus on the customer is the biggest element of Jobs legacy in my opinion and if customers want an iPad mini, well that's just following his legacy surely.
And he only passed a year ago, so he would have been aware of both the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini being in development at the time and if he wanted to, he probably could have killed the development programme prior to stepping down.

The iPad mini is still a logical device to launch purely on economic terms. I done see why a company as large as Apple would ignore the smaller tablet market, it just doesn't make sense.
And an iPod touch is not an iPad mini. By that argument the iPad is just a larger iPod touch considering the touch came first. Or the iPhone is an iPod touch with a phone stuck to it.

New product lines are an absolute necessity for any company that wants to survive. Diversification is essential. Otherwise it becomes stale and dies. That is simple basic economic sense.

The year before Jobs died it was brought to his attention the need of entering the 7-inch tablet market. The iPad mini was Jobs's idea

Let me get this straight...because the fact that there is a booming market for seven inch tablets was brought to Job's attention, that proves that the iPad mini was his idea? Jobs knew that there is a market for iPad minis, so what? I know there is a market for cars (especially if I cannot fail!), but that does not mean that I'm going to go into the car business.

Knew this would happen. I lasted less than 30 minutes.

    Look out your window.
It is all but confirmed. I highly doubt it's fake, but I remain cautiously pessimistic as always until official announcement. But still.. It simply has to be real.

I knew you wouldn't last until tomorrow even.
I did think you'd resist longer than 30 minutes though. (stupid autocorrect)
(Changed to may or may not, interesting edit, stance softening?)

I imagine it's real, with various reports and what not out there. It's a smaller ipad 2 and I wouldn't mind having that. It's really down to the price point and I've seen quite a range.

It's getting to be a tough choice between upgrading or holding off until next year.

I'm saying it Jobs was working on it for a while. It wasn't time cook trying to make it. I don't want to see another thread about how Tim Cook is destroying apple with new products. I just wanted to make it clear jobs had the idea of an iPad mini

I wanted a bigger iPod touch/smaller ipad for a while. As long as it is as powerful as the ipad 2/iPod touch 5g I will be happy.

I just want to play real racing 3 modern combat 4 and the amazing Spider-Man without mass lag-fest, and not have to pay $500 (granted I would get itouch5g if not ipad mini)

Definitely real. It's shown up on the item list now, just like iPhone 5, and the new iPad. It's official. I have no doubt in my mind about existence now. though with the $350 price tag..it's not that great.. I'd rather spend $399 for the iPad 2 16gb wifi, rather than iPad mini wifi 8gb any day. I thought it was supposed to compete with smaller tablets on the market by similar price point but clearly not.. For a mini version with much less features (possibly even no camera, smaller memory, slower, etc) I definitely don't think its worth it, especially if the resolution is going to be completely different, making it even tougher on app developers..meaning the game list will be limited too. Most ppl would benefit way more and be offered way more features and games by getting an iPad 2 for $40 more. This will only really benefit apple geeks who need to own every single apple product to feel at peace with themselves. I usually upgrade most of my apple devices every second year..(i dont like upgrading if there is no visual upgrade at all, seems pointless to spend a thousand on something that looks identical ) except for exxy things like MacBook and iMac, they can be upgraded less.. And I usually need atleast 1 of each item category on the market, almost OCDily..but I really don't think I could bring myself to pay $350 for a mini, when I could pay just 150 more for "the new iPad. (which I also refuse to do, because I'm supposed to wait for the iPad 3./rant

Considering the invites have now gone out, are you still sure that there is no iPad mini?

We shall see. I certainly am more open to entertaining the notion now.

Well, I'm not sure it's real, or it probably would've come out with the ipod touch 5 and iphone. Besides, people who think it would have similar functions/power are fooling themselves. This item would simply be aimed at competing with kindle-type tablets with similar functionality, nothing more. I agree with most of what you said, but instead of buying in on a new ipod touch, which I see as not as much of a leap forward for game playing in terms of functionality and longevity, I just got a new ipad3. I'm VERY happy with it, and I'll be good to go for some time now. Just wish it had like 128GB out-of-the-box or sd card compatibility since I'm not a fan of the 'cloud' and 'renting' space. After all these years, why can't Apple make a product with more space than 64GB? Considering how big some games are now at over 1GB each, you'd think they'd make that. It pisses me off. They need to get with it!

Okay, if I'm reading this right, you reckon there is no iPad mini coming and that if it had been, it would have launched with the iPhone 5.
I won't get into the specs mentioned because it should be pretty obvious what the specs will be to anyone who is familiar with Apples product history and patterns.
Suffice to say the iPad 3 will remain the highest spec tablet and the iTouch 5 will remain the lowest spec device. And the iPhone 5, the best overall.

    I have one question though.
What exactly do you think is being announced on the 23rd?
Retina MacBook Pro 13? iTunes 11? New Mac mini? iPad 3 refresh with lightning connector?
Is it really likely that they would have such a large press gathering for the above products?
    No, it's not likely.
The size of the event is enough to indicate that it's a launch for more than those products.

I'm a bit confused by the denialists when the evidence, be it anecdotal, based on Apples previous patterns, supply chain leaks, insider leaks (to WSJ for example), economic forecasts and numerous other indicators, very obviously point to the fact that a smaller screened iPad is coming.

One could even guess the specs with 95% assuredness.
