lol @ ipad... the more videos i watch the more i don't want one anymore. if it could order me chinese food and tell me when i'm low on milk, than mabye i'll consider one...
I`m exactly on the opposite end. Was a lil disappointed when apple first announced it but now the more videos I watch, the more I want it.
Hmm, nice find. Although wouldn't Steve have stressed the fact that the iPad plays flash for at least 10% of the Keynote? "Guess what, the iPad plays Flash! You know, Flash! Not just HTML5; Flash!"
No, it doesn't have Flash, and yes, NYT is displaying a special version of the site with video encoded via a different method for that app. You know, like that other popular app, YouTube.
I wondered if that would be the case. But then 9to5mac probably knows that possibility, dont you think?
MacRumors also covered this.... http://www.macrumors.com/2010/01/29/ipad-promotional-video-and-images-show-properly-displayed-flash-content/
I am slowly beginning to warm to the idea of getting an iPad, but I'm still pretty certain I'd give it a year or so to see what enhancements are made. Those who buy it straight away are going to feel the same way 1st gen iPhone owners feel today, and they're always complaining about something. It really does depend on the games though, I'm expecting Illusion Labs to wow me with their iPad version of Labyrinth 2.
Maybe NYT have optimized their site for the iPad, stripping Flash content. Maybe the whole thing runs off HTML5. Maybe Apple used a render of the website for the video, instead of the actual thing. Or maybe, just maybe, we might get Flash on the iPad after all.
flash gives programs control over the hardware, which Apple doesn't like if you've noticed. If stuffs like the iPad, which doesn't use flash becomes popular..maybe flash might eventually disappear
Actually I spoke to my friend that did the NYT and the NYT is actually an App So no flash sadly, I want flash for stuff like Hulu.
They did this for the NYTimes app. They'll likely do it for the iPad app as well. This is from Adobe's official blog: http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplatform/2010/01/apples_ipad_--_a_broken_link.html I doubt Flash will run on the iPad. But maybe this is a good thing, especially for developers who already have free flash versions of their games online? If Apple allowed flash gaming, these developers wouldn't be able to make any money from those games in the app store. Adult Swim's My Lil' Bastard is a good example. Have you ever tried Daily Motion? They have a huge collection of videos, html5 support, and a really nice iPhone app.
Honestly, who cares? I hate Flash with a passion. So do Google and Apple. The future of web interactivity cannot be placed in the hands of a closed platform owned by a single company. The future lies with open platforms like HTML5. You can't search flash either.
It seems like the way they put these videos together likely involves inserting what is actually displayed on the device's screen after they shoot all the clips of people holding the device and moving their fingers around on it. We shoot a lot of iPhone video, and I really don't see how they could be capturing the display on camera without all the weird little things you notice when you watch the HD versions of our videos. (Like an errant dust spec, a smear on the screen from touching a menu item, waviness from the backlighting, etc.) Whatever machine they put together the simulated iPad stuff together on probably had Flash. I don't think there's any reason to read it to it any deeper than that.
As predicted, it probably is not a Flash enabled iPad... Display of Flash Content in iPad Promo Materials Likely Not Indicative of Actual Flash Compatibility
It seems like everyone has forgotten the whole keynote already. When Steve first started browsing on the iPad he went to the NYT website, and the "missing plugin" icon was displayed where Flash content was supposed to be. Later on he showed the NYT's app which displayed the content correctly. Thus: Not Flash. Custom encoding for iPad only accessible through NYT's custom app.\ Watch the keynote again.
