So ok, I'll admit i'm frustrated as a developer that you can only find the few featured apps. But.... This really blows for everyone. Even my 65 year old Mum loves browsing the puzzle category to find something new. As a longtime gamer though i am pissed i cant just go to a category like "rpg" or "action" and see what's new. I like to browse the stuff as much as i like to play. I mean is that some sort of deal the big guys have with apple. Anyways What do you guys think? NOTE: this is for the app store ON the IPAD
I agree it's much more difficulty to get noticed than when the iPhone App store first came out. And if you app is already there at launch it wont be shown as a new app either so it's going to be tough! I have Tabletop Checkers in there now, Do you have an app in the store?
I have 4 games up and I am pissed. You can only see the featured games on the iPad app store unless you search for them. You can't search action, arcade , puzzle ect. All the work for nothing.
I just dont think people only wanna be spoon fed 18 games its like going into gamestop and there only being 30 boxes on the shelf and onlt 12 are games my point is that as a consumer it sucks too! Thats why i wanna hear from some gamers.
At first I thought you were voicing complaint with the actual app selection; now that I read the post and visited iTunes, yeah, that sucks royally. Sorry to hear about your app troubles, BigBanana! In any case, I think I am giving in to the idea of buying an iPad. I was on the fence (as it IS literally a big iPod touch with a better eBook app and "HD" games) but as soon as Geometry Wars and Mirror's Edge came out I began calculating how a 32GB 3G edition iPad could fit into my budget.
I agree, it is way too hard to find anything. Especially in games section. It is making the assumption you know the names of all the games out there. There was a similar issue when iTunes 9 originally launched and they droped all the game categories for a about 2 days , then they fixed it. So I hope they add more detailed ways of finding games in sub-categories blade
I'm sure they'll do something once the iPad has been released for a while. They are probably too busy raking in the cash at the moment
Yeah you can't really browse any categories it's a very lame interface, I hate it from a dev point of view and from consumer point of view. Here I am with a new iPad and I can't really even look through the apps all I get to see are featured ones.
Why don't you not buy the program you need to make iPad apps, and spend it on grammar lessons instead.
The ipad appstore sucks coz the ipad sucks. Steve allready realized this fact, but he wants your money so buy an ipad and make steve happy.
Frankly, I never thought the App Store game sections for genres was all that great because things would be listed under wrong sections. For instance, the adventure category is littered with games that are NOT adventure games. Same deal with the RPG category.
That's not the store's fault. Some developers purposefully choose the wrong categories to get more exposure.
And that's another good reason for Apple to not leave some aspects up to the devs/publishers themselves. I really tire of having to go through endless text/graphic MMOs and entertainment apps to get to actual adventure games like Beneath a Steel Sky.
Na, don't think so, coz he would never admit this fact. Steve just wanted to release something new, a new entertainment device based on the success of the iphone/ipod....problem is just, there is no demand for such a entertaining device which doesn't fit into your pocket. For everything else there is a pc, mac, netbook, notebook ps3 etc. And he wouldn't kick me in my face, coz he would realize in advance that he would loose this fight. ah cmon, i like stevie but that doesn't change the fact that the ipad is just a hyped and luxuary device and pointless if you allready own an iphone/ipod touch.
I completely agree. I bought the iPad to use as an e-reader and the book store for iBook is the exact same way... You can't just browse through all products in a category. It just makes me wonder if they didn't have time to categorize everything as i have also run across books with no description (even in the featured section). All I can say is that shopping in the app store or book store is frustrating.
While this isn't a perfect solution by any means, I'd suggest going to a site that specializes in ebooks (i.e. smashwords for example) and search there, then look up the title in iBooks. It's a pain in the neck of way of doing it, but better than what's currently available.
