Same here. I had a screen protector on my 3g many years ago, but never put one on my 3gs or 4s for the duration of their life. Both screens are still in perfect shape, no scratches whatsoever. Haven't put one on my 5s, and I have no intention of doing so in the future. I do tend to put my phone in my left pocket though, while I put change and keys in my right.
Taeles! Hey buddy! It's been a long time since I've seen your name. Hope things are going well. NineNines
Just checked that out, 1gb confirmed then. Given the price of ram and the price of iPads I'm truly astonished that the ipad air only has 1gb of memory. I am looking at upgrading my aging ipad2 but now I think I'll go for a cheaper ipad4 as the air doesn't really offer me anything useful to me personally. No extra ram, no longer battery life. Size and weight simply don't matter to me. Putting 2gb in the air should have been a no brainer.. Crazy move.
well knowing apple i expected 1gb, but still hoped for 2gb to make the airmore future proof. games crashing due to being out of memory and not being able to free more is pretty common on the bigger more advanced games. 2gb would have made the air the new ipad2. A device with a very long tech life performing very well even a couple years down the road with a minimal additional cost. odd choice but then apple was always pretty conversative with their product updates when it comes to memory
Maybe what I"m about to say makes no sense whatsoever, but perhaps they can get more life out of 1 GB by incorporating the memory compression that have in Mac OS X 10.9? Now you probably get to make fun of my ignorance. LOL.
If you have an ipad 4 theres no reason to upgrade unless you have more money than sense. sure 2 yeah, a 3? maybe but a 4? blowing £500 just cos its lighter? stupid
I thought it was supposed to be twice as fast as well. Also, for me, going from a 2 to 3 or 4 was never going to happen because it was heavier - that's a step backward IMHO. Now this comes along and is lighter, retina and way faster and I don't have the funds.
Having both 4 and air in hand, the air is noticeably snappier especially when going between landscape and portrait. On 4 it waits a bit before turning, and the turning animation is a little choppy. On air it's instant and smooth. I'll check again once I've loaded up the air. Not fair to compare a loaded 4 vs empty air.
So iPad Air still has 1 GB of ram ? I always multitask and it's awful when apps crash just because ram is bottleneck compared to other hardware parts that are top-of-the-line.
Yeah, lame isn't it? They'd rather make it lighter and slimmer to appeal to the morons and retards than actually upping the damn specs, ffs its crying out for more ram. idiots Was gonna update my ipad2 next yr, no way now, will buy a far far cheaper and more powerful android system rather than falling for apples bs again.
I don't think including 1GB RAM instead of 2GB RAM changes the weight significantly. A 16GB storge iPad weighs the same as a 64GB storage one anyway. No, it is just one more thing to incentivise you to upgrade to iPad Air 2 in 2014... Nonetheless, why is the stupid retina iPad Mini taking so long to come? I am going to end up missing the 2013 Christmas App Sales because of a lack of storage space...
Not all that crazy, really. While a spec bump across the board always gives a warm fuzzy feeling, keeping things standardised makes sense from Apple's perspective (hence the Air and new mini simply being different sized versions of the exact same device), and having a single current device with 2GB of RAM wouldn't really help the situation regarding memory issues. Developers trying to stop apps from crashing due to running out of memory would still need to address these same problems for the 1GB devices making up the vast majority of high-end mobile Apple devices in use (the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C, 3rd and 4th-gen iPad, and iPad mini with Retina all have 1GB). Trying to release a game that literally required an iPad Air because of its extra memory wouldn't go down well, and if the game is tailored to work perfectly with the 1GB of RAM available to all the other devices, the proposed 2GB wouldn't be necessary. It would be nice if the latest iPhones, iPad and mini all had 2GB, but as those other devices don't, sticking 2GB on the iPad Air alone wouldn't do anything except exacerbate issues. At this point you should probably expect any new iPad to have the same amount of memory as an iPhone released the same year. Well, first of all, stop being a petty child; jealousy is ugly. Second, there are multiple reasons to upgrade, some of which involve gaming, some of which don't for example, one of the many reasons I plan to upgrade is that I currently have a 64GB device and intend to move up to a 128GB one, as 128GB iPads didn't even exist when I bought my 4th-gen. The iPad Air isn't just a case of Apple having cut the crusts off the 4th-gen iPad sandwich to make it smaller and weigh less; the device as a whole has been improved in almost every respect except the amount of RAM it has. As for the money, even if I couldn't easily afford it, one of the good things about living here is that last-gen Apple devices in excellent condition can always be resold very quickly for at least 75% of their initial purchase price, so picking up an Air will ultimately only set me back around a quarter of the full price at most. The "BS" you're falling for there is what Android is shovelling. Android devices with higher raw hardware specs consistently perform worse in real life than contemporary Apple devices, and despite progression in terms of apps, Android still doesn't have anywhere near the range available on iOS. Given your post history on TA, all this appears to be bitterness over something you can't afford, but nobody's stopping you from picking up something you can. Taking your frustrations out on people here is ridiculous, though, so maybe you should take your own advice and "mind your own business" rather than hurling abuse.
I dunno, sure if you want higher specs on paper, you want to go android. You'll get more ram, more ghz etc. but look at the 3d mark scores. Sure the ipad air isn't at the top, but look at the score it produces. It's about on par with the snapdragon note 10.1 and you can't say its because the air also had a quad core, more ram, etc because it doesn't. Plus sure, you're free to pick any device you want but you'll be missing out on the ios exclusive games and such. Also this air is really light compared to the 4.
How about a Surface RT? It has a quad core processor, 2 GB ram, 32GB storage, and last but not least a kickstand. All this can be all be had for only $350.00. If your only looking at specs and price you can't beat a Surface RT. Now if your looking for the best combination of software and hardware than it's hard to beat an iPad Air.
I will see your Surface RT and raise you my Windows 8 Pro tablet. Higher specs than anything on my iPad 2, but it has never worked properly. Overheating. Updates refuse to download completely. On screen keyboard that does not automatically pop up...
Maybe I'm a nub with the surface pro but I played with it at best buy and it was one if the worst tablet experiences I've had. The stylus wasn't there so I can't tell if that would've made things better. But it just felt like the touch aspect was shoehorned in as an after thought in terms of how intuitive it was. I'm sure it's powerful as a windows machine, but as a tablet, I'd rather use an android or ios version.
Why don't you all just close open apps before launching a big game? Not so hard to open multitask and closing apps down. If you find that an issue, or you're wanting all kinds of apps running while playing a game... Then you're on the wrong platform. Get a windows tab.
