Sure but I bet they cost pennies to produce, considering the steep price of iPads, it wouldnt kill them to put one in the box
But the addition of a Smart Cover will add fatness to the iPad, something that Tim D. Cook and Jony Ives despise. So no. In fact I seem to recall, if I remember correctly, Apple advises against screen protectors too. My guess is that it will add fatness. As otherwise, we will have seen iPad Fat with 24h battery life. iPadisWaitingForCookToBeReplaced...
Screen protectors cause degraded visual quality, as well as reduced touch response. They're completely unnecessary for most people. Unless you're working a job where you constantly have gunk on your fingers (like being a painter, or something like that), screen protectors are pointless. The screens crack before they scratch, and screen protectors aren't going to protect the impacts that generally crack screens. Apple is right to advise against them. They produce a lower quality representation of their product, and most people won't deduce the reasons behind that degradation.
Yeah, I've owned an Iphone 3GS, 4, 5, an Ipad2 and an Ipad Mini and never used a screen protector on any of them. Never had a scratch and never cracked a screen...
I am actually experimenting now. My 5C is protected by a screen protector while my 3GS has gone commando...
I use to have a screen protector on my iPhone 4, but after it peeled a bit I took it off and have not used one since. No scratches at all. I have dropped the iPhone a bunch of times too. I am not sure why I thought a screen protector was necessary. The iPhone screen seems nearly indestructible. Nearly. I do have it in a thin shell case.
I use a matte finished screen guard on my iPhone. Non-glare and grease free. The material feels gritty and smooth compared to the standard shiny slippy protectors.
Screen protectors are useless IMO. I bought one back when the 3GS was released, but ended up removing it. I've dropped that one and my iPad 2 so many times on all kinds of surfaces it's not even funny. I got a really thin SGP case on my iPhone 5, I went with 64 GB so I felt keeping the backside clean will probably be a good idea if I ever gonna sell it. Anyway, scratches is _very_ hard to get, should worry more about cracks (which screen protector obviously won't help against).
I didn't have a screen protector for my first iPad and it got a scratch across it after about a month. Luckily I had to replace it under warranty because of a dodgy home button. After that there's no way I'm going without a screen protector again.
For those guys using iPhones without screen protectors, do you just dump your iPhone in your pocket like me? And is it still ok?
The iPad Air will be available from November 5 here in NZ, but because I already have a 4th-gen iPad, I'll be waiting until the Black Friday sale later this month before I grab the new device.
For my phone, I have a little soft case on my belt for carrying it around so no I don't just dump it in a pocket - although something like a pocket on the inside of a jacket would be about the same. My Ipads all have Belkin flip covers so they aren't just sitting around with the screen exposed all the time.
if the air only had 2gb ram, it would be and instant purchase.. this would help with alot of the more demanding games like xcom or anomaly 2 who eat memory for breakfast.. no ram update since the ipad3 is pretty lousy. ill wait for the mini2 release to see if its really the same hardware and then that will be my new private ipad and the ipad4 can go to my gf and exchange her ipad2
