I'm pretty sure that people who don't notice a difference have bad eyesight. It makes a world of difference to me. I can't go back, no way. It's not quite the difference between HD and SD on a tv that can handle HD, but it's pretty damn close. In other words, there's a HUGE difference.

Look at those screenshot comparisons on the last page by Appletini.

If you can't tell the difference between those, you probably don't need a retina screen. If you can, then you already know how much better it is.

Yeah, probably bad eyesight and old age, I can tell a difference between those images but its minimal and not the great graphics leap I was lead to believe retina was.

I can only be honest and say for me personally the ipad air (apart from being lighter) is such a minimal improvement on my ipad2 that yes, I'm currently hating myself for what (at this moment) seems to be a very expensive and unnecessary upgrade from the ipad2. But I can only speak for myself.

    Caveat Emptor indeed ;)

I hear you, and I apologize if my initial comment was rash. It was meant to be, in a way, but it wasn't meant to necessarily offend anyone personally.

If you can tell a difference in those pics, then you can tell a difference. You've got a great device with the Air, and you will be happy for a long time (2 years minimum, probably 4-5 if you want to stretch it).

While you may not see a great difference at this particular moment. I'd "challenge" you to use the Air for a month, and then go back and test the iPad2 with similar functions. I'd be very interested to read your results.

The two things you should be noticing about the iPad Air are the lightness and the longer battery life. 24 hours as a hotspot. Can you beat that?

I think the inability to easily discern the difference between retina and not could be explained by astigmatism. I still can't really tell the difference between my 3GS, my deceased iPhone 4 and my current 5C.

It is not as big a jump as say VGA to SVGA or VCD to DVD.

I think the battery life is around 10hrs? Which is the same as my iPad2.

Yeah the lightness is nice without a doubt, but not £599 nice ;)

Anyway it's here now so I'll have to get used to it, it's just not the improvement on the ipad2 that I imagined but maybe that's my fault, anyway I guess it'll get better as devs use it.

    No thank you

If I were you I would return it. Your wallet will thank you. You can always pick one later if a good deal comes up. I personally wouldn't be happy with an iPad 2 now the iPad Air is available. My wife doesn't care either way so she'll keep her iPad 2 until it dies.

Really? Have you actually run the iAir down? I recall reading that people were getting in excess of 10 hours.

That 24 hours thing is when you dedicate your iAir to being purely an Internet hotspot only.

Yeah, return the iAir and get the significantly cheaper retina iPad Mini when it is available a few days later...

That's not an option, since I bought from my catalogue it said once the device has been used (ie turned on) it cannot be returned.

Don't get me wrong, it's a superb device and scarily light, just not the leap
I expected from an ipad2 when I was reading how good retina is. ;)

One area where you ought to be able to tell the difference is on performance.
I have an iPad 2 and upgraded to iPad 3 and could tell the difference immediately on several games.

I just bought the iPad Air 128GB today and can hardly wait until I get home from work to enjoy my purchase.

Another area where retina might be more noticible for you is browsing the web and reading iBooks.
I read a lot, and it was a huge difference for me and my aging eyes. I'm almost 46 years old.
I need reading glasses to read analog books, not so with the iPad.

Yeah. Text is the place were retina is most noticeable - and for me completely necessary.

For games and videos it doesn't notice nearly as much.

Fired up my new air last night and played warhammer for a while. Really like how it feels and that it doesn't get hot like my old ipad3. I have no regrets about my purchase. Loaded up all my games and still have 58GB to spare. Now I just need some free time!

  13. Yeah, I don't think I could ever use an old ipad mini cause I read the web so much on it. The new mini should be better, but still I like the air better.

Just installed some apps, Forgot to do folders.. Weird glitch. There was an app icon in the corner of my screen. Went away after reboot. Is this an iOS 7 issue or an iPad issue?

This iPad air makes me wish I didn't even go android. But I have an iphone and an android tablet. If I go iPad I'll get a nagging feeling of utter waste cause ill never use my android. I wonder if I could use both. Like just switch on and off occasionally. I'm not that type of person though. I need just one or the other lol

Haven't tried an android tablet yet but a lot of my friends go with an android phone and an iPad ~

feels like that's the current best combination for now :D

  17. Yeah, that might be for people who like a big screen and sd card on their phones.

I seem to have a problem with my iPad air.

The rotate screen barely works, yes the rotate lock is off, but I have to turn and flip the pad for around 2 mins before it actually rotates even once!!

Not talking about games either but this just the iPad main screen. Rotate simply does not want to work at all whereas my iPad2 rotates within 2-3 tenths of a second of you rotating the pad.

Can anyone else with an iPad air confirm this problem?? Not sure if it's an air problem or I need to return it to the shop :(

If your iPad Air takes 5 seconds there's something going on. Mine turns within a second.
