For me it comes down to "Buttons or not"

And the answer for me is "both"...or maybe Vita and skipping iPad 3 if it doesnt offer too much over the iPad 2.

It wont, I still don't understand this compulsion people have to upgrade every year. Technology does not change that much over the course of a year, processors get a little bit faster, maybe they throw in some more RAM or a better camera. That's all that's going to change, it's not significant. The iPad 2 is not drastically better then the iPad 1 despite being slightly thinner and having better performance in a small number of games. If Apple only releases an iPhone 4S that's exactly the same as the 4 but with the A5 and more RAM and no additional storage I'm not going to buy it because it's not significantly better then the 3GS I've been using for two years. It still runs all the same apps and doesn't offer enough tangible benefits over the current model to make it work spending another $300 on.

Not really obsessed with getting a new iPad soon. The reason I waited for the iPad 2 in the first place was the (futile) hope for a less reflective display, not perfomance reasons.

Thinking about it I dont play most games on iPad for graphics anyway. I love nice graphics but my iPad isn't home for many state of the art FPS games.

So next reason to buy another iPad might be retina resolution, but even that would rather be nice upgrade than the ultimate must have feature.

But you can never rule out Apple coming up with something innovative, though I think the chances are slim for the next iteration.

A new form factor would be nice, a 5" iDevice with 3G would be perfect for me. It doesn't matter if they market it as an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

I decided to get a Vita the day after Apple's press conference announcing the iPhone 4S. I even have it pre-ordered on Amazon (WiFi only, 1 day shipping). :D

Funny thing is that I barely knew much about the Vita aside from general specs. I was so invested in iOS gaming that I kinda didn't pay much attention.

Thing is I sold my 4th iPod Touch a few weeks ago, and was intending to use the money toward a 5th gen Touch model this year. Truthfully since I got my iPad 2, I wasn't using my Touch anymore for games. So I don't regret selling it. But I figured an updated Touch would be cool to have. Yes, I know that's silly, but that's where my mind was at.

But when Apple only announced the 4S, I remembered the Vita, and started reading all about it and the upcoming games. Wow, looks amazing! Then I got my PSP out (haven't really played it in 2 years since getting into iOS) and it was a revelation using actual controls again. iOS is great for puzzle and strategy games, but for action games, real physical controls are game changers. So yeah, bring on the Vita! As for 3DS, I have no interest. And I'm glad because I don't need another platform to spend money on. ;)

So, basically the Vita will become my primary game platform, and my iPad 2 will be used mainly for media consumption, some work stuff, and personal communications. I will play games on it time to time, but probably won't buy action games on it anymore, since those will inherently be more fun on the Vita IMO.

yeah, iPad & Vita sure is a great combo...stupid thing is one still needs a phone and iPhone still is the always in your pocket gaming device that the Vita can't be (for me).

I suspect a lot of people will buy the Vita now there is no new Touch I was always going to buy one anyway it would be nice if Sony got a proper App Store together then it would be a perfect replacement I've a feeling I'll end up buying something Android to fill that pocket niche though.

I dont think many people will make the connection between the missing iPod and the Vita, they are so different.

Should the iPad 3 come at the same time, I sure get Vita and wait for iPad 4.

With 4S just out developers concentrate on that level of power right now and I sure can stand not having the small enhancements some games might receive on iPad 3.

Gotta have both! Vita will be great because all the best games from the PS3 can easily be ported to it and it has dual analog sticks. It will be a mobile gamers wet dream. You can always go every other generation on the iPad like others have mentioned with out missing out on much.

Sony just announced special pre-order bundles, complete with games and memory cards. Unfortunately, the only pre-order link they have right now is Amazon.com, but apparently Canada's getting it too!

I'm getting a Vita. Preordered on Amazon with release day shipping.

I sold my touch 4, and just keeping my iPad 2.

Vita will be main gaming device. iPad will be my main browsing and media device.

Personally after 2 years of iOS gaming, the platform has gone stale for me. There are TOO MANY games, and very few are truly satisfying. Furthermore, action games are inevitably lacking due to lack of real controls. I'm tired of control compromises, and pretending that I'm Ok with touch screen dpads, fingers covering parts of the screen all the time etc. Plus IMO the iPhone/Touch screen is a little too small, and the iPad screen is a bit too big. The Vita is an ideal design in that respect because the 5" OLED screen and great selection of controls hit a nice sweet spot.

Id rather have fewer games, with much deeper gameplay and higher levels of production, and proper controls. I'm willing to pay more for that. And that's what I'll get with the Vita.

As for iPad 3... probably skip. Happy with my iPad 2, and not sure what higher resolution will really do for me. Just don't feel the need. For folks who skipped the iPad 2, yeah, go for it I guess. Text should certainly look super smooth on it.

I originally had preordered the Vita the day it was available on Amazon. However, I've decided to hold off until a decent library is built up and it's proven that it will be supported. I really loved my PSP, it was a really great system with so much potential. But with the lack of developer support, it really hurt.

I eventually bought into the crap about the PSP Go. I LOVED that unit. It was such a great system on it's own merits, but Sony sucked with game and PSN support.

I bought a 3DS at launch and really loved it at first. Then the drought came. On top of that, there was a huge price drop which really irked me. I could care less of the 20 games offered. Lesson learned there.

I'm actually getting an iPad 2 for Christmas for gaming as well as the millions of other things it can do. Taking a chance, but hoping that the iPad 2 can last a little longer with some decent support.

I'm sure I'll eventually end up with a Vita, I'm just going to let it mature and see if Sony pulls it's usual BS.

I see no point in ordering a Vita until we've got evidence of a worthy games library. As soon as the big names start hitting it and I see signs of a decent collection, I'll pick one up. Now I play the waiting game.

As time passes, I'm thinking of getting a vita less and less. Mainly because all the releases will simulaneously be released on the ps3, especially fighting games in which I"d use a fightstick for. Even other games, I could just buy on a ps3 and be content with. That being said, I'm not looking at iPads either due to their price. So neither?

I say that going with the Ps Vita is the smartest move, yes Ios devices will get upgraded every year, but highly doubt iOS games will be as immersive and lengthy as Vital games both for single player and multiplayer. iOS developers have yet to add voice chat to there games *cough* GAMELOFT. I also read somewhere that just like the IPad, Ps Vita will get a graphic update when the new Series 6(rogue) chipset comes out, what does this mean? Expect noticeable graphic changes like the how the iPad 2 looks way better than iPod touch 4g on most games. Don't forget that the most online players a First person shooter on iOS has seen is 12 players(modern combat 3 and 9mm). I'm sure that online gameplay on PS vita will at least be 20 players, if not more.Notice that I have not compared the Vita to the PS in terms of graphics.
