With the announcement of the iPad 2 drawing closer, I thought I'd start a thread for discussion - either for rumors or facts, or even just what you hope for. Recently at the CES, a dummy iPad 2 was found on one of the stalls - sadly no USB port, but is thinner and a better speaker added. See article below for hands on video http://www.t3.com/news/apple-ipad-2-leak-caught-in-hands-on-video?=52373
2 iPads will be released in spring: one that's smaller one, and one normal sized one. It will have a camera, though it is unsure whether on the front or back (or both).
If it's smaller, thinner, lighter and more powerful, then that's probably enough to convince me to buy one. Is that a guess or do you know that two will release for sure?
I think dual cameras are quite likely so that it can fully support Facetime. A higher resolution screen is a possibility. Apple cannot afford to fall behind after touting the benefits of the Retina Display so highly when there are higher resolution screens becoming available. For example the Hitachi 6.6" 1600 x 1200 302 ppi IPS (this doesn't mean I think Apple will use that screen, just that higher density screens will be available that someone will use). I don't think it would need the density of the iPhone Retina ppi as iPads are held further from the eyes. Doubling the Retina resolution to 1920 x 1280 in 10" format would be nice for developers, but the dummy models suggest the same 4:3 format as before, so maybe 1920 x 1440. Also good for displaying 1080p content as 1920 is the width.
Do not say false when you know nothing yourself. My dad's a stock analyst. He had a conference call with Philip Schiller (Senior VP of Apple) who said outlined the plans for the iPad that is releasing this year. My dad said Schiller was vague, but he did say there would be two different sized iPads and some sort of camera (s). Don't believe me? We'll see in April
My friends dad's friend knows a contact inside an Apple supplier whose friend... Jobs went on a conference call and talked about all the reasons a 7" tablet wouldn't work. Maybe you should listen to it.
Jobs says a lot of **** everytime he opens his mouth I'm bought my ipod in spite of him not because of him I predict theres a good chance he will backtrack on flash as well now he's been pretty much pwned by google in the html 5 specs. I laugh everytime I hear the word magical now.
I just want Apple to hurry up and release the damned thing already so I can buy one for my daughter so I can have my iPhone back.
I was tempted by the first gen iPad, but I am holding out for camera(s) and 128 GB (or more) of storage. A faster processor and upgraded battery would sweeten the deal. I fly a lot (2-3 days per week) and the iPad could replace my laptop (and bulky laptop bag, power brick, mouse, etc).
I was holding off on an iPad for a 2nd gen one. The first is awesome, but expected improvements will be nice.
Even though steve jobs has a history of making statements against stuff Apple is about to launch soon (ipod video, tablets, along with more), I dont think even Schiller has guts to say anything against Steve jobs comments. Steve Jobs is the only person who's allowed to prove Steve Jobs wrong without getting the boot from apple Anyways, we'll definitely see in april. Even if a smaller iPad shows up (highly unlikely but nothing impossible), it wont prove anything as I could make a guess and say Schiller told me
That's all they really have to do. Improve on what's already great to stay ahead of the pack. I'd be willing to wager a hefty bet ($2) that there's a front-facing camera, but the rear camera is harder to justify. I could see them throwing in one that only does video, for the sake of uniformity so you could switch cameras in FaceTime, but there won't be a 5 megapixel shooter in there. I wouldn't be surprised to see a better screen rez (1280 x 1020?), and there's only so far you can go with devs. They've been on a resolution roller-coaster, what with the first iPad and the Retina Display, and the addition of a fourth rez to support might prompt the pitchforks. Ultimately I'm going to say no. If there's a SD card slot it'll only be for photos. No memory expansion. My wild card is a retina display.
The iPad 2 is definately getting a front facing camera, the iPad 1 has a space where an iSight camera would fit perfectly, it was scrapped at the last minute because FaceTime wasn't announced yet.
