Hello, I am anticipating the coming monday to install finally the update with folders and all the new stuff My question is this: can I download in university (faster internet) a singe file which I can use for upgrading, when I am back at home!? I cannot use my mac right now to go online via the university WiFi. So I would login to a windows computer and wanted to download a singe file without iTunes, so I can upgrade when I am at home on my mac. Is this possible?! Thanks in advance!!
Should be doable. Once it's out, you'll be able to find the direct link to download it (like this is for 3.1.2). Then all u gotta do is place the file in the correct directory and update with that file.
thanks for the quick response and sorry for posting in the false forums. could it also be done with drag and drop? @jak56: on monday, 21st apple said it will be out then, so I will try to get it asap
Yes the file would work but you need a method of transferring it such as a flash drive, disc, hard drive, etc.... So.. I guess "drag and drop" would work?
yeah of course I will take my usb stick with me and tranfer the file then via USB. Hope that it will be for download on monday morning 8am in Germany *fingerscross*
I know I'm probably the only one affected by this but iTunes 9.2 will not load onto a mac with a G3 processor and no Itunes 9.2 means no iOS4. So now I have to buy a new computer to get my upgrade on my phone. Can I put iTunes on my wife's laptop and run my account on both? I know I would only be able to sync my phone on her computer.
I do not mean to hijack the thread, but this is a relevant question: Will upgrading from 3.1.2 to 4.0 make me lose data? I have over 30gbs of stuff, and that will be a real pain...
Just make sure that the browser is actually saving the file as an .ipsw. IE sometimes saves it as a zip file, and I don't know if you can just rename it. Most other browsers do ok, and recently I have not had problems and IE d/l the gold master as an ipsw. Just check and if a proble, safari is good, fire fox, opera, etc are all good.
The simple answer is no it should not. Upgrading should just put the new OS over the old one and everything should be fine. You might want to first do a synch and make sure everything is backed up, but I have never had a proble upgrading to OS 3 then 3.1, then 3.12, etc.
