Might? Its already happening ,especially with the terrible economy. The game is the price is right and iphone has got the price.
There are more casual gamers than dedicated/"hardcore" gamers. The question is how you measure profits. More iOS devices may sell, but individual, high-end gaming companies will not make more money pandering to the .99c casual marketplace then they will make selling their games to 39.99 dedicated gaming marketplace, assuming, of course, that they know what they are doing and they are producing legitimately premium, high-quality games. Like the over 1 million copies of Street Fighter IV that has sold on the 3DS at 39.99 a piece. That beats the living hell outta whatever profits that capcom has made selling Street Fighting IV on the Appstore for, at most, 9.99, and quite often cheaper. Which is the same reason why Activision has produced 3 fully-featured Call of Duty games for the DS, and zero fully-featured Call of Duty games for the iOS. It's all a matter of perspective, really. Most of these major, established, multi-console devs are making only a small profit on iOS development in comparision to other platforms. As far as raw hardware sale numbers, I'm sure the iOS is doing very well, but that really only tells half the story. Mobile gaming will not replace handheld gaming unless mobile gaming satisfies the dedicated gamer as well as the casual gamer, which has not happened, nor do I ever believe it will happen. It's like comparing Nintendo to Microsoft when it comes to the battle for console gaming supremacy. They both have their place, their market, their niche. Neither Nintendo nor Microsoft will ever entirely replace the other. Nintendo markets to casual gamers. Microsoft markets to dedicated gamers. Both can co-exist because they are two distinctly seperate customer bases. iOS gaming markets to casual gamers. Sony and Nintendo (more so now for Nintendo than before when it comes to portable gaming) market to more of a dedicated gamer base.
Every device has its own advantages and disadvantages. Mobile gaming is a popular trend for the moment, however, whether it will take the place of portable consoles is still to be seen. Only time will tell.
Ya Ofcourse! Its getting highly speed because, Now It's having a advanced technology with multiple features so that nothing to new but it looks great!
Yes apple has taken a good chunk of portable gaming market , hence why Nintendo is always attacking IOS. IOS and android have made a permanant spot in portable gaming. The prices are low enough to encourage impule buying. Everyone has thier taste however and some people feel more comfurtable with real buttons then virtual buttons. Also some people like long campains and grinding. IOS has some of the longer type games , but specializes in casual gaming. Bottom line is price which IOS has to offer great low prices.
I'm a casual gamer that want also to make calls, send sms, seeing movies, going around on the web, have a solid touchscreen, have a device with latest technology; I don't want to organize nothing on this device and I hate loadings, I hate waiting for having apps or a web page opened; I want games and apps that are free or that cost not more than a buck. I'm the typical "iPhone user"...here I am!
I don't see my ipod touch as a replacement for my PSP, but it's telling that i only have three games for the latter, but about 50 for the former. That said, i specifically bought that PSP to play Metal Gear Peace Walker, which is still a phenomenal game, and there is nothing yet to touch it in stealth gaming on iOS. My ipod i take with me wherever i go, as i like music. I also like to be able to dip into a game every now and then if waiting for something, or whatever. Now that many games on iOS are containing more depth than being mere casual games, i really do have a great choice of what to play. The pricing models are different, most certainly, but iOS is also free from constraints of physical media and stores taking a cut. Probably the prices could stand to be higher, but ultimately it's the consumers who will decide if something like angry birds is worth 10 bucks as opposed to 1.
