I saw videos of the iRemoco & the Griffin remote controlled helicopters. They both have free apps on the app store. I was wondering if anyone has done a comparison or review of these and/or any others?

After watching The Gadget Show a few days ago where they tested a ton of RC helicopters I could never buy one. I think they tested about 20 of them lost controls of a few which flew out to sea and managed to crash the rest and for a few hundred a piece that's an incredibly expensive few seconds.

I think the Ipod/Iphone control ones are just gimmicks you are paying more for worse controls, the only exception is the ar drone parrot which I think is pretty cool actually and the camera view on the screen adds a lot.

Wish I could find a clip of the gadget show rc helicopter test but haven't been able to but it was season 16 episode 2 and aired this week. Well worth watching if you are thinking of buying one.

Exactly, regular RC helicopters start at around $20 with a physical controller. There's no reason to use an iPhone to control one unless it does something that specifically requires the use of a touchscreen. The Parrot Drone has a camera and it's own collection of apps, it's not like it just uses the iPhone as a controller for the hell of it. I've thought about picking up one of the cheep RC helicopters but they don't work well outside so that kind of kills the novelty for me.
