I have played Hearthstone before. I liked it but I need something different. Any suggestions? Card games that can be played in portrait mode are a plus! Thanks!!!

Lost Portal and Deckstorm come to mind. Lost portal has excellent dev and solid forum comments, single player though I think

I've been looking into deckstorm a bit but haven't downloaded it. What are the pros and cons of it in your opinion?

Well, it's pretty. Gameplay is familiar, if you've played a lot of CCG. Has guilds and card leveling. There is a neat power that some cards have, like a spell you can cast when it "fills". However, I found the combat lacking overall. Seemed to just be too simple, I guess. Seemed to boil down to rock, paper, scissor to me. I only played a day or two but went back to hearthstone. Maybe I didn't give it enough time.

I see... It looks a lot like Eathcore to me...just a fancier and more modern look to it. Hearthstone is so hard to keep up with now and I feel like you get pounded unless you pay quite a bit for boosters. I have heard a lot of good things about Solforge though.

Played Earthcore, can't remember why I stopped, but it didn't last long for me. I looked at Solforge but at the time I didn't want to learn a whole new game, was just learning hearthstone at the time. Might have to give it another look. I'm mainly saving my next CCG fix for the Elder Scrolls CCG that's coming soon...ish. Looks just complicated enough and I love the elder scrolls universe. Seems to be a bit more mature themed as well, being a bit "cartoony" is what has started to turn me away from hearthstone a bit.

I've been hearing people mention the new Elder Scrolls CCG a lot. Is there an estimated release date?

TA article said no time soon. It's out on PC in beta I believe. Bethesda sometimes does a sneaky release though, i.e...Fallout Shelter, so I'm hopeful, but it might be a while. I've backed of CCG a lot lately, except a daily match ot two on Hearthstone. I'm liking the new Möbius FF game right now the most. Has some card collecting and leveling elements, but also F2P stuff, so depending on your feeling there it might not be for you. Scratches my CCG and RPG itch pretty good. There isn't a lot of CCG options that are great Imo, or maybe, for better or worse, Hearthstone is just the best option. I feel ya on the " keeping up with the jones's" thing with Hearthstone though. Maybe some others will ring I on this thread with some CCG I'm not aware of. I have looked for an alternative a lot myself, and come up wanting.

    Magic the Gathering

Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 was one of the best card games available on iOS, but unfortunately, it is no longer supported and has been removed from the AppStore. Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014, Magic 2015, and Magic Duels are all still in the AppStore. These are the more complex-traditional type card games.

If you're looking for something new-age like the Hearthstone, you could wait for The Elder Scrolls: Legends to come out sometime in the future. It is bound for mobile.

I was a huge MTG player back in the day but I have never tried the digital versions...however, I heard Magic Duels kind of sucks...is that true?

Magic Duels is the latest of the digital MTG games; I played it, but not for very long. Honestly, I had more fun playing Magic 2013 and Magic 2014; with Magic 2013, there were no online requirements and you could play the entire game OFFLINE with optional card pack purchases. In Magic 2014, you could play the game OFFLINE in its entirety after you make one In-App Purchase.

Magic 2013 and Magic 2014 also looked gorgeous on iPad; most notably 2014, and the decks and builds were better and more "complete". Magic 2015 and Magic Duels are just OK, in my opinion, but I really don't like how many non-multiplayer modes are closed off and require a persistent internet connection. It's nerve-wrecking trying to progress in Magic Duels single-player campaign when you always NEED to be connected.

@MintCity - send me a PM if you'd like to try Lost Portal CCG. If you loved MTG, you should enjoy it. The creature combat is streamlined (more like Spectromancer, Orions, Kard Combat), so it plays much faster and does not require any internet connectivity.
