This is interesting. Might make for a good front page article. If anyone else wants to bug the staff with it, go right ahead.
I've tried my 4S and my Mini, and changing backgrounds takes maybe 3 seconds on either. I honestly don't know why you make such a big deal about changing it. Even if it does take 30 seconds (which I highly doubt), it's not like many people change their background that often.
I don't have the money for an ipad5. I was going to get an upgrade 'on the drip' at xmas but really if I'm lumbered with ios7, I don't think I will buy one now. I backed up my ipad, did a 'erase all settings and content' and then did a restore. It just finished 2 mins ago, so too early to tell if its any better, going to try it out now.
You're forgetting that the ipad 3 is retina. Also that the ipad 3 is underpowered for processing the ipad retina backgrounds. I just timed it for 2 backgrounds. 25 seconds 36 seconds But it is probably a decent time on the ipad 4, and probably will be fast on the ipad 5. You are right that it is mostly just a pain when one first upgrades to ios 7, but unfortunately that is almost the first thing that most people do.
It shouldn't be stuttering that bad, so hopefully that will help. Overall ios 7 on my ipad is ok speed wise, except for a couple of things mainly changing backgrounds, regular stuff like switching folders etc, works fine.
I'm gonna try this BS for myself... 7.80 seconds. iPad 3, switching to a 2048x2048 Home Screen image. I wouldn't be complaining even if it was 30, this was the first time I've changed it since I bought it over a year ago.
I'm not exactly sure what you are timing since it pauses twice for me when one picks a background and one hits set background. My times were started from once I hit the general settings icon, back to home screen. Try changing wallpapers over like 3 times, you call it speedy?
Fair point. Your criteria was nothing like mine. I wouldn't even call my own results speedy, but I'd call them "fine".
Seriously disappointed with the artistic direction of iOS7 and overall awkward feel. It has some nice new features, but the overall presentation is a step backwards in many different aspects. Probably the first time I have ever actually been dismayed by an Apple product. We miss you Steve.
I'm the opposite, prefer this more flat/basic approach to the icons. When i look back at my old home screen (Yes i was sad enough to save a copy !) i think it looked really garish and OTT. Prefer this new modern approach. But with something like this it was near impossible to please everyone. But at the end of the day as long as my apps work okay i dont care if the icons are lime green with pink spots. I dont bother with wallpapers (to me those are the types of people who have 30 ringtones to annoy everyone with on their phone , i just go with the default. Again near impossible to please everyone
Assuming it were possible to have no wallpaper, I'd imagine it'd look fairly bizarre. iOS 7 relies a lot on blur and translucency with your wallpaper to create a sense (and only a sense) of style and connection to your home screen. You could try a pure white or black wallpaper.
Why the hell is the Game Center 'Welcome Back' so 'banner-like' and opaque? Before it was non-obtrusive. Now on my 4S it ends up blocking the screen. It's the little things like this that make me wonder how this got out of the Beta stage.
